1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Pic Obese Star Trek Dresses & Spock himself! on: August 18, 2010 05:18:48 PM
Okay - so, a few months ago, a friend of mine asked me to go to a Star Trek convention with her... and she wasn't even planning on dressing up! I took it upon myself to decide that we were going to and sewed us each a dress.

Now, for all of you hardcore trekkies out there - I did make these longer than they were in the show on purpose. I didn't exactly want anything hanging out of anwhere. Haha.  Roll Eyes

What ended up being amazing about the trip - we arrived late (due to horribly wrong directions) and missed pretty much the entire function. However, two of the awesome people working there were able to get us into a room with Spock himself for a picture! <3

Okay. And the pictures:)

First - the inspiration!
My character - Mira Romaine:

And her character, Helen Noel:

Our dresses<3

Me and my dress:)

Both of us - she is a lot taller than me! Haha.
I am no hairstylist, but I tried to get them close to the inspiration characters!

My wannabe "bouffant" hairstyle... so hard to do!

Some action shots! Pardon the girl behind me and her bra hanging out. lol.

And us with Mr. Leonard Nemoy/Spock himself! SUCH a nice guy! Cheesy

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help with men's high collar jacket?? on: September 27, 2009 07:25:37 AM
So, I was watching Trading Spouses the other day (haha) and the daughter of one of the families had this awesome high collar jacket on that my fiance just loved.

I cannot find a picture of it anywhere, or even anything close to it, and I really would love to sew him his own and surprise him with it.

It had a high collar - I'm not sure if that is the right term - it looks like the collar is always 'popped' if you know what I mean.  Tongue The zipper went all the way to the tips of the collar and it had the word Japan on the front.

Anyone know of any patterns that sound similar, or even better, have a tute?

Any way you can help would be freaking awesome Cheesy Hopefully this is the right area to post this. :p

This is the closest thing to what I am trying to describe that I can find:

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Help incorporating late mother in wedding?? on: July 18, 2009 12:19:45 PM
My Fiance's mother passed away around New Years this year, and we want to have her at our wedding next October. Not so much actually included in the ceremony, but maybe leave her a seat reserved.

I'm looking for any opinions on how we should do it.

--Just a simple/elegant picture frame with a picture of her on a seat?
--A collage of her?
--Is it gruesome to bring her ashes? I don't know if he would want to or not?
--A lit candle and a picture? Just a candle?

Any creative, elegant ideas? I want it to be special for him. His mom was his rock.   Cry
4  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / "Cancer caps for kids" Tutorial! on: October 19, 2008 02:23:38 PM
Yay! I have pictures now! :]

When I was in highschool, one of my teachers had the whole class sew these caps, almost like beanies, but made out of soft fabric or fleece, and we donated them to the children's hospital.

I loved this idea, so for the past few years, I have been making these "cancer caps for kids" and donating them to hospitals in my area for the children undergoing chemotherapy and the like. The hospital staff always seem so touched, and I hope the children like/use them!

Just wanted to share.

Hopefully the tutorial is okay! Sorry if I'm confusing. :]
