The poppet pattern found its way into my inbox just in time for my birthday (the 27th), so I went out that afternoon and bought some fabric for my first poppets! I am going to be making one for a personal swap, but I wanted to try one first to see how it would go.
Presenting Paksenarrion the poppet!
This picture is from my deviantART, just giving an overview.
A better shot of her face. Yes, I know her eyes are off. Still think she's pretty anyway. Her face was hand painted.
A full body shot, she stands about 15" (pattern enlarged by 120%). She was actually jointed with buttons, so the limbs are a little looser than normal.
The hair. Oh lord the hair! Each individual "strand" is made up of three pieces of yarn which I braided The strands were then braided into a larger braid as that is how Paks wears her hair in the book. This took FOREVER (okay only 4 hours but still) but was completely worth it. The hair is a little under 2ft long.
Paksenarrion or Paks for short is a character from my favorite book of all time, Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion. The book is amazing in itself, but Paks is also the literary version of me in every way (other than hair color!). She was my birthday present to myself. She took about twelve hours to complete as my sewing machine is broken and I had to sew her all by hand. Her clothes are made from a linen napkin (the undershirt), brown cotton, and some brown leather. She's not quite finished yet as there are a few more necessary accessories, but all in all I'm happy with how she turned out!
