1  Tiny Hearts Hold a lot of Love! in CHALLENGE 48 ENTRIES by Knitting_Chemistry on: March 06, 2010 09:36:28 AM
Well this is my entry to the Tiny Things Challenge. (Of course after seeing some of these entries I was wary about entering but since I already made it and it's too cute to not share, what the hey I'll go for it!) Oh and I will apologize now for the size and quality of the photos! They are cell phone pictures and not very good ones at that!  Embarrassed
When the challenge was first posted I started thinking about what I could make that was tiny, but still adorable.  Since Valentine's Day was around then I decided something love-themed would be cute.  I also started wondering if I could knit with crochet thread...I could it just makes my eyes and hands yell at me afterwards!  Cheesy Thus this little guy was born:

i made him using the free pattern found here:
http://mochimochiland.com/weblog/category/free-patterns/
It's on the second page, and is called "Hearts" I used size 1 knitting needles and size 10 crochet cotton in a light pink.  I then stuffed it and attached a band to the back so that it could be a ring.  The band is just a row of single crochet, then one of double crochet, and then one of single crochet.  This picture should show that he is 3-D:

I really just wanted a cute heart ring to match some heart earrings I had so that's why I decided to make a ring. And to show the size (just about 1 inch in all directions):

Oh and the eyes and smile were just drawn on with a fine tip sharpie! Well that's my entry and I hope you all like it !! Please vote for me!  Grin

2  Another Coraline... in Halloween Costumes by Knitting_Chemistry on: November 06, 2009 02:26:01 PM
Usually I don't do anything for Halloween but this year I got to go trick or treating for cans for the local food pantry.  Smiley  Since this was going on and I am in Pennsylvania I knew that it would be cold and so I started thinking about what costume I could wear that I wasn't going to catch pneumonia in! I also did not really want to look like a hooker if I could help it so that pretty much cut out all pre-made costumes.  That's okay though, handmade are more fun. Wink

I had recently seen Coraline for the first time (but read the book a while ago) and so I decided I would be Coraline! I picked her star sweater outfit because it was easiest (and warmest) to replicate and I would wear all the pieces afterward so I could justify buying them! haha This costume is just a long sleeved blue shirt from Target and black jeans from Wal-mart.  The blue boots were a pair that I had and rarely wear because they are too big.  My dad then put blue painter's tape on them to get the right color.  It actually worked really well and the tape didn't get too torn up.  The stars are just foam stickers from Wal-mart that I put on it and they glow in the dark which was exactly why I got them.   Grin
The wig I made with some blue Red Heart yarn (I think Royal) from Wal-mart and using this tutorial which was awesome!
http://diyfashion.about.com/od/costumes/ss/Yarn_Wig.htm

I also got a couple of dragonfly hair clips from, you guessed it, Wal-mart.  I made an "other me" doll based on the doll from the movie and using patterns from: http://www.byhookbyhand.blogspot.com/  (it's the Free Spirit Doll) It was really easy to make and turned out well.  If the camera part of my phone and my computer were talking to each other you guys could all see close ups of my doll and shoes... grrr.   Angry
Still here are a couple of pictures that my friends took (that's them in the pirate outfits).  Hope you guys like it, sorry for the long intro!  Embarrassed  Comments and critiques welcome! Hope everyone had a great Halloween!  Cheesy
Here's helpless Coraline in the middle being shanghaied by pirates...perhaps they will help her fight the other mother?

You can see the shoes in this one! ^

P.S. The really bad smiley faces are because I'm not sure if my friends want their faces out on the internet...They don't usually look like that! haha  Cheesy

3  A rose is a rose... in CHALLENGE 39 ENTRIES by Knitting_Chemistry on: June 05, 2009 09:35:10 AM
...is a rose even if it is made out of pencils and catalogs! This was my first try at one of these challenges and it was a lot of fun! I decided to make a pretty bouquet of roses out of the catalogs after I saw this great tutorial:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=134959.0
It was very easy to follow, even if I did change a few things!   Wink

Here is the full bouquet in all it's glory.
And here are a few closeups of the individual roses:

As you can see some of the roses are in full bloom while others are only buds.

Every once in a while a weed slips in too, but they can be just as pretty as a rose! If you are very lucky you might even get a couple of butterflies to land on your bouquet of lovely roses!

And a couple of closeups of the butterflies:

I used an unsharpened pencil for the stems of the roses and masking tape to attach the petals and leaves to the pencils.  All of the flower petals were made out of an old American Girl Doll catalog and all leaves and the butterflies were made from a Delia's catalog.  The butterflies I made using an origami pattern I found in a book from a library when I was about seven and accidentally memorized.   Embarrassed Sorry I can't give more information than that!
I am sorry about the quality of the photos, I am NOT a photographer at all and I only had a cell phone camera...which I forgot to use to take "in progress" photos with...oh well! Thanks so much for sticking with this post and I hope that you liked the roses!   Cheesy
