191  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / a caramel dipping sauce that would harden on the outside? on: November 01, 2009 04:49:00 PM
so for hubby's b-day I'm making him this cake: http://doughmesstic.blogspot.com/2008/10/happy-birthday-pumpkin.html
But I also want to make a few cheesecake pops, like these:   http://www.bakerella.com/cheesecake-pops/
Only I don't think Pumpkin cheesecake would go well with chocolate... So, does anyone know of a caramel sauce that would harden slightly on the outside that I could use for dipping?  i might even roll them around in some walnuts, but do want a bit of a shell for that candy crunch.
Any help would be great!
192  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / International day of felt! - post your pictures here on: October 03, 2009 09:37:46 AM
October 3rd was marked as the fisrt ever International day of Felt!!
I, personally, am trying to use it as a means of reaching out to my community to see if there are any other crafty/artsy types out here.  The population is less then 300 in town with a few hundred others spread out ruraly.  There has to be at least one or two others lol.

Lets start at my house:
My first ever nuno felted item.  it is a rectangle with limitless possibilities, and may end up becoming a cowl -if it doesn't end up buggy, but its quite cool out so I think maybe the bugs are sleeping now Smiley.

In the background of this one you can see my door knob hanger:

Here it is up close and personal!

Next stop is the locally owned grocery store,  Another of the "door" hangers, hung on the bars, so that it wont get caught in the door and get wrecked.  I did stick tags on it with a link to FeltUnited.com, and my info on the back, in hopes someone might take one and call me inquiring further into felting.

And lastly the bank.  I also made the ladies some rope necklaces, but did not get pictures of those.
good shot of the flower:

good shot of the bowl:

and the display as I put it out.  they also had some of thier information on the table for a gas give away... but eh, can't fight to much right?  besides, my flower makes it look all look really pretty!

have a happy international day of felt!

193  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / from pink to bubbles :D on: September 27, 2009 11:09:11 AM
So our bathroom was pink.... pink walls, pink curtains... very pink. now don't get me wrong I like pink, but not in my bathroom, not in that quantity anyway.

Here's the result of a couple cans of paint:

sorry, this ones dark... but it give a fuller view of the bubbles.
Here's a

before/during in which you can still see the pink:

this is as finished as the bathroom will get for a while.  I just really couldn't stand the pink bathroom... next redo we will have the tub and toilet moved, and a new vanity and new floors... Good thing my hubbys a plumber.... Cheesy  But for now a couple cans of paint will do.  And belive you me, there will be bubbles in the next re-do too!
194  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / To make my own WPI..... on: September 13, 2009 01:14:34 PM
Okay so I'm mildly confused here.  I want to make a WPI tool.  Here I am searching methods and coming up with things that confuse the snot out of me.  example:  One site says to take a 1/4 dowel and mark 1 inch and wrap.  Next site says take a piece of wood that is one inch tall by 6 or so inches long and mark off 1 inch and wrap.  Now maybe it's just perspective, but would that not yield two different counts? I'd test it out if I had the mats at hand, but my chance of getting to a hardware store is slim atm... Does anyone have a pattern or link to a pattern for one of these?

(and yes, I know a standard ruler would work just fine, but I want to make something perty... cause I'm intoxicated with spining tools to.. not just spinning...)
195  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Lovesclutter embroidery on: August 21, 2009 12:04:26 PM
I was paired up with Lovesclutter (okay so I asked to be paired with her... but anyway) in the Pimp my Craftster Username Rd4.  This is on the front of the wallet I made for her Smiley

I think this is my first post on the embroidery board......  but not my last!
196  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Raspberry Brooch on: August 21, 2009 11:56:42 AM

There is a seperate doiley underneath, so ingnore the crochet Wink  I used both wet and needle felting.

197  COOKING / Dessert / A cake I made for a Cancer fundraiser on: August 09, 2009 10:04:10 AM
So.  When I found out there was a desert auction to be held at the Concert For Cancer here in town, I knew I wanted to make something.  I've been volunteering at a camp for kids with cancer for 7 years,  This is a cause close to my heart.  3 weeks ago I found out a boy in town my sons age was diagnosed with cancer.  This made the desire all the more strong.  4 years olds should not get cancer.... mind you no one should...  But the funds raised are going to the family.  Anyway.  I made my delicious Chocolate covered strawberry cake.  It fetched a whopping 450$!!!!!!   Shocked   It wasn't the most expensive one, but it was by no means the least expensive!!  In total our little town of 300 odd people managed to raise over 14,000$!!!!!!!!  And I was glad to be a part of it!

Well, now that you've read all that, I guess you want to see pictures of the cake that made 450$      Wink

The more or less straight on shot Smiley

This is what the inside looks like.  Under that pile of strawberries is a generous layer of choclate ganache!

Close up of my very first attempt at a bow Smiley  turned out pretty darn good Smiley!

and one more for fun!

Thanks for having a look!
198  COOKING / Dessert / Chocolate coverd strawberry cake on: July 16, 2009 07:19:47 AM
So I found a recipe for strawberry cake  (here:  http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-4783-scratch-moist-strawberry-cake.html )  and was determined to actually use it.  I can't make a cake for fun, but I can make a cake for a reason. So when one of my recruits (I sell usborne books, its like tupperware, only kids books;) ) made it to the executive council and dragged me along with her I felt she deseerved a cake.

So I call it chocolate covered strawberry cake.  It is chocolate marshmellow fondant, covering the strawberry cake.  To make the MMF chocolate I just added cocoa powder.  in a full recipe of fondant I'd say it would be about 1cup of cocoa. (I just wung it, since I'd made the recipe before and knew the texture I was going for.)

You can probably see the "quilting" effect on the top, I did that with a fork, because I don't have any real cake decorating tools.  but what youcan't really see is that I rolled it out on cheese cloth, to make it look like fabric.

This is a pic of my attempt at making it look like knitting for the band at the bottom.  didn't really work out well.

And a close up of my terrible pipping skills.  color is off in this one.  I really need to learn how to take pictures of my cakes...

enjoy!
199  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / spikey cat collar- crochet! mildly pic chubby. on: July 12, 2009 08:36:46 AM
So I was thinking our new kitty needed a collar, and with no hope of going to a place I could find a killer collar, I decided to make one!
He's so cute and innocent looking, but under that cute bi-eyed exterior, he is a little hell raiser!  So spikey collar it is!

sorry some are sidways... my coffee needs to be stronger.. I thought they were up right...
