191  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / itty bitty sock monkey on: February 12, 2010 11:33:43 AM
This cutey was made with the socks for my new little baby girl.  It's the smallest socks you can find (or at least I can find)  Anyway she is about 2.75 inches tall and from her butt to her toes is 2.5 inches long.  I added the felt heart, because it's near valentines day and yeah I have hearts with love written on them on the mind.   Roll Eyes
Anyway here she is, to cute!  In my hand for a bit of a size reference:

192  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Many stitched calenders... (loads'o'pics) on: December 28, 2009 06:50:38 PM
So a while back someone posted a calender they had purchased from September House Etsy and embroidered (I'll find that post and link it..... It was thejoyfojess, with this post:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=321753.0)  I thought they would make great gifts, so I bought 6 blanks and made each family member (and thier families) a calender.  I bought all embroidery designs from Ubarn Threads. Here are the results:

These ones went to my family (Parents, Sister, Brother)

all wrapped up and ready to go:

Close up of the parentals.  Went with a rainbow music theme, they both tinkle on the piano, so I thought this was a good way to go.

Close up of Sisters.  I had issues knowing where to finish this one off but I decided to stop as it was... hope they will like it.

I don't know what this stitch is that I used to fill in the bird, but I'm glad I used it.  It looks good Smiley

Close up of Brothers.  He's a machanic, and still only 22... I thought the girly fabric on the back was a good touch if he doesn't so much like the skull and cross wrenches.....

These are the ones that went to the In-laws.

Close up of the parental inlaws:

And closer still, so you can see the tiny stiches required to do all those tight turns.... (color is off because I couldn't quite get it to work with the flash, so I just used a bare bulb.. didn't work so well either... gotta figure that out one day)

Close up of the Brother inlaws.  They are currently a family of 3, so I added the little birdy in the middle.

this one is for us.  I relate to the quote, as I always seem scatter brained, but I know what I'm doing lol  It's stil a WIP... but hey I have a few more days to get it done Smiley  Also I don't know if I like how the dandelions turned out.. I might rip em out and re-do...

Some of the designs were slightly modified, so they would fit just right in the given frame.
The only people who recieved so far are the parental inlaws.  The MIL was impressed (she used to craft too, until her hands went wonky) so I was happy with that.  Nice to have your work appreciated!

Anyway, thank you to the person who posted the calender in the first place, they were tons of fun to stitch Cheesy

Oh and I stiched everyones birthdays on there too, so no one would have an excuse to forget!
193  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / partial superwash batt, will it felt? on: December 27, 2009 04:35:55 PM
Okay so question is of course right there. ^
I don't know the percentage of superwash, but its superwash merino, merino, bamboo, linen and bombyx silk.  It's gorgeous and wants to be a scarf, but not so much a kint or crocheted scarf, but nuno felted.  Can this batt be what it wants to be, or am I best off spinning it against it's will?
194  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / camera case and teacup on: December 23, 2009 09:27:22 AM

195  COOKING / Dessert / Poppycock!!! yum :D on: December 23, 2009 09:10:29 AM
So yesterday, I searched this forum for a poppycock recipe and found NONE!  what!?!?!  so, I call up my mom and get her recipe, which I will share with you all, because whats christmas without popycock?  Heck, what's life like without poppycock?  sad I say Wink

Poppycock
2 cups light brown sugar
cup light corn syrup
1 cup butter
tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
1tsp Baking Soda
6 quarts of popcorn ( approx. 1 cup of unpopped popping corn)
2 cups assorted nuts (or your favorite kind)

Pop popcorn.  In a large sauce pan combine sugar, corn syrup, butter, cream of tartar and salt. Boil rapidly on medium heat stirring constantly until mixture reaches 250`F 9hard ball stage) Remove from heat.  Stir in soda, (mixture will rise) mix thoroughly and immediately poor over popped corn and stir until well coated. Add nuts, stir. Place coated corn in large buttered roasting pan,  bake for 1 hour at 250`f, stirring 3 or 4 times..  Store in air tight container.

Happy poppycock making!

196  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Little starghan on: December 19, 2009 10:54:19 AM
So I was in a fiber swap with Oddacity a while back and she sent me the most delish colored roving, pinks and yellows!  I immediatly began hoping that my Belly Friend was a girl as I knew exactly what I would make with it if said Belly Friend was a girl... Well,  We still don't know, as baby is still in belly, but I made this starghan anyway.. I sure hope I get to use it!  It's not big, but I intend it to be a lovey blanky and of course can slowly make it bigger as baby grows, and when I spin up more yarn to match.

anyway, enough yackin'... pics!

Me "modeling" it over the bump... yes beautiful pregnancy mask I know... Thats what happens folks.  be prepared.. LOL

and a close up of the center which after making a few more of these as pot holders (  which I don't have any pics of...)  I realized a better way of doing it, newb mistake, but eh, whatevs

Anyway I love this pattern.  you can just make it as big or as small as you want!  I think I love crocheting!
197  COOKING / Dessert / Sisters and Nephews birthday cakes on: November 12, 2009 09:47:53 AM
My Nephew and My sisters birthdays are 9 days apart.  I was put in charge of both cakes Smiley  My sis helped me out with the Pablo cake, and decided fondant is not nearly as terrible to work with as she expected.   That's what I told her Smiley
Her cake was her favorite color and flower.  She turned 30 btw... I just didn't paint the number on her cake

198  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / a caramel dipping sauce that would harden on the outside? on: November 01, 2009 04:49:00 PM
so for hubby's b-day I'm making him this cake: http://doughmesstic.blogspot.com/2008/10/happy-birthday-pumpkin.html
But I also want to make a few cheesecake pops, like these:   http://www.bakerella.com/cheesecake-pops/
Only I don't think Pumpkin cheesecake would go well with chocolate... So, does anyone know of a caramel sauce that would harden slightly on the outside that I could use for dipping?  i might even roll them around in some walnuts, but do want a bit of a shell for that candy crunch.
Any help would be great!
199  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / International day of felt! - post your pictures here on: October 03, 2009 09:37:46 AM
October 3rd was marked as the fisrt ever International day of Felt!!
I, personally, am trying to use it as a means of reaching out to my community to see if there are any other crafty/artsy types out here.  The population is less then 300 in town with a few hundred others spread out ruraly.  There has to be at least one or two others lol.

Lets start at my house:
My first ever nuno felted item.  it is a rectangle with limitless possibilities, and may end up becoming a cowl -if it doesn't end up buggy, but its quite cool out so I think maybe the bugs are sleeping now Smiley.

In the background of this one you can see my door knob hanger:

Here it is up close and personal!

Next stop is the locally owned grocery store,  Another of the "door" hangers, hung on the bars, so that it wont get caught in the door and get wrecked.  I did stick tags on it with a link to FeltUnited.com, and my info on the back, in hopes someone might take one and call me inquiring further into felting.

And lastly the bank.  I also made the ladies some rope necklaces, but did not get pictures of those.
good shot of the flower:

good shot of the bowl:

and the display as I put it out.  they also had some of thier information on the table for a gas give away... but eh, can't fight to much right?  besides, my flower makes it look all look really pretty!

have a happy international day of felt!

200  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / from pink to bubbles :D on: September 27, 2009 11:09:11 AM

Here's a

before/during in which you can still see the pink:

this is as finished as the bathroom will get for a while.  I just really couldn't stand the pink bathroom... next redo we will have the tub and toilet moved, and a new vanity and new floors... Good thing my hubbys a plumber.... Cheesy  But for now a couple cans of paint will do.  And belive you me, there will be bubbles in the next re-do too!
