8781  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where to buy roving: Sheep Shed Studio testimonials on: April 14, 2009 08:43:55 AM
I have a question for all you that have ordered, and Live in Canada.   I was about to put an order through, but the shipping was as much as the fiber!!!  is that fairly normal?  I don't know if its worth the shipping cost... or maybe it is?
8782  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Re: Wall-e (with pattern) on: April 14, 2009 08:27:37 AM

Aww, I love how they're all set up in families! How did you do their beaks? I made some, though I just love how your beaks turned out!
Thank you!
um k.. lets see if I can write this up to make sense.....

For the beaks I just DC into one stitch twice, then DC in the next stitch twice, chain one then return to pattern more or less, because you will be off by 2 stitches.   When it came to the wings, I just made sure they would be 3 stitches(for the big ones, 2 stitches for the little ones) from the edge of the beak.  And I just crocheted into the posts under the beak.
Also, I just always paid attention to where the stitch count started, and made sure I was still decreasing on the proper row, and not half way through the next.

Hopefully that makes sense.

So I saw this post, by Wayuki: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=298179.0
And I just knew I had to make a ton of these chickies for my family.   Its a good thing I have a relatively small family.  LOL  And no, they have no eyes, because I didn't have any black embroidery thread, and live in the middle of nowhere, and its not worth a trip to the city for just some black embroidery thread.   And I kind of just gave it a go with the beaks and wings, because when I started, I had no real crochet back ground. I knew how to dc, sc, trc, and that was pretty much it.  The "bobbles"  for the beaks turned out not bobbles. The family members loved them.  and thats all that matters.  Anyway on with the picture:

The blue ones are the men, The pink are the women, Yellow are the kids and the grey ones are the Grandparents.  They are all arranged in families.

thanks for looking! c+c welcome!

I'm done your pillow, Puffy!!!  I'm just going to  make something extra as well and hope you like it.
And Ivy, I've started on your gift, and the first 2 tries failed, but the 3rd was great!  now just a few more things and I'm done.
Hoping to ship both on tuesday!  (but more likely one tuesday and one wednesday.)

Is it horrible, that I feel I may get addicted to swapping???

Hi, my name is IllusionsOfNormal and I am a craftaholic...

Cheesy  I know what you mean - I think I've had at least one going at all times since I started swapping last year.  I'm not sure if Craftster is my support group, or just an enabler!   Wink

Haha me too!!!! I'm definitly addicted.  I started in December, and had 4 going on in January(they were all small)  I said in January that I was finished swapping until now, for the April Bday swap.  But THen I joined the Oz swap at the end of febuary.  And then I said I was done after this, but now there is a fiber swap in the works so I'll be done after that until fall..... yeah right! LOL

But swapping is fun! Making something for someone, knowing that they  will appreciate it? Knowing that they want it?   how wonderful!  SprigofIvy, it's not horrible to be addicted, as long as you can control yourself... although I seem to be failing at that LOL

my day actually started quite terribly.  My son (4 yrs) woke up at 6 am and screamed for a very long time (like until 1)  But then my hubby came home and took over refinishing the table. and he brought with him a swap package!  so  It went well after all that! XD   How was your day Illusions?

It was a really nice day.  A cake and a few presents at work, a few presents at home & out to a nice meal for supper.  My daughter has an ear infection, but thankfully we got through the worst of that the day before.

I totally missed this post before.  I'm glad your birthday was a good one!
