Its official.  I sent out Puffy's gift!  Woooo!  I'll apologize in advance for not wrapping it up in pretty paper,  It would have gotten all squished anyway.  But I'm sure you will love your package!

also, hello Ellen!  It is hard coming up with a list of things you want, isn't it.  Good thing I planned this out for over a month LOL  I had a list in word processor waiting to be cut and pasted LOL

8324  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where to buy roving: Sheep Shed Studio testimonials on: April 14, 2009 11:22:56 AM
thanks lissaw, I guess I'm just used to smaller shiping charges, because I mostly purchase/send smaller things.    Seeing 3$ on a 2 oz listing on etsy, or 4 oz of fiber it doesn't seem like much, but then I guess this is 15 POUNDS which is alot more then just 4 oz.  I've got to think it out first then see that its not that excessive.

I have a question for all you that have ordered, and Live in Canada.   I was about to put an order through, but the shipping was as much as the fiber!!!  is that fairly normal?  I don't know if its worth the shipping cost... or maybe it is?

Aww, I love how they're all set up in families! How did you do their beaks? I made some, though I just love how your beaks turned out!
Thank you!
um k.. lets see if I can write this up to make sense.....

For the beaks I just DC into one stitch twice, then DC in the next stitch twice, chain one then return to pattern more or less, because you will be off by 2 stitches.   When it came to the wings, I just made sure they would be 3 stitches(for the big ones, 2 stitches for the little ones) from the edge of the beak.  And I just crocheted into the posts under the beak.
Also, I just always paid attention to where the stitch count started, and made sure I was still decreasing on the proper row, and not half way through the next.

Hopefully that makes sense.

So I saw this post, by Wayuki: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=298179.0
And I just knew I had to make a ton of these chickies for my family.   Its a good thing I have a relatively small family.  LOL  And no, they have no eyes, because I didn't have any black embroidery thread, and live in the middle of nowhere, and its not worth a trip to the city for just some black embroidery thread.   And I kind of just gave it a go with the beaks and wings, because when I started, I had no real crochet back ground. I knew how to dc, sc, trc, and that was pretty much it.  The "bobbles"  for the beaks turned out not bobbles. The family members loved them.  and thats all that matters.  Anyway on with the picture:

The blue ones are the men, The pink are the women, Yellow are the kids and the grey ones are the Grandparents.  They are all arranged in families.

thanks for looking! c+c welcome!
