7543  COOKING / Dessert / Chocolate coverd strawberry cake on: July 16, 2009 07:19:47 AM
So I found a recipe for strawberry cake  (here:  http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-4783-scratch-moist-strawberry-cake.html )  and was determined to actually use it.  I can't make a cake for fun, but I can make a cake for a reason. So when one of my recruits (I sell usborne books, its like tupperware, only kids books;) ) made it to the executive council and dragged me along with her I felt she deseerved a cake.

So I call it chocolate covered strawberry cake.  It is chocolate marshmellow fondant, covering the strawberry cake.  To make the MMF chocolate I just added cocoa powder.  in a full recipe of fondant I'd say it would be about 1cup of cocoa. (I just wung it, since I'd made the recipe before and knew the texture I was going for.)

You can probably see the "quilting" effect on the top, I did that with a fork, because I don't have any real cake decorating tools.  but what youcan't really see is that I rolled it out on cheese cloth, to make it look like fabric.

This is a pic of my attempt at making it look like knitting for the band at the bottom.  didn't really work out well.

And a close up of my terrible pipping skills.  color is off in this one.  I really need to learn how to take pictures of my cakes...

over seas right?  it can take up to 12 weeks for a package to cross the pond (going ground, going air, it can take up to 6) according to my post mistress.....  Its been 4 for mine to Persephone.....

It could just be Canada Post and thier crap-tacular-ness. They have apparently lost my package to cupcakeguru. I think during the summer all but 3 employees go on vacation.....

ugh.. that sucks, I'm just hoping mines not lost too....

Ah man! Those packages rock! They totally match your hair! I love it. I'm ever jealous of Nesse's awesome hair. It's super cute.

Seriously though, those packages are so pretty. The colors are yummy.

If I could get away with hair like that and not be looked at like I was loosing my mind,  I would have hair like that, so darn cute! (Which btw I live in the biggest little hick town in the middle of nowhere, where 80% of the population has never actually left and persued a life anywhere else.  They are all very narrow minded... seriously, all of them.  If ANYONE, even the teens wore thier hair like that, they'd be shunned.. and I choose not to be shunned LOL)

Oh and we'd all roll around in that gorgeous fiber too..... so we know what it must look like Wink

swap related.  My Sister and her family left this afternoon so now I can get down to some serious crafting!!! yay!!!  I've already started on an item I'm thinking meets a 2 point mark.... the first one I don't even think fits a 1point... its more like .5  LOL  But with all the ideas I have running through my head I'm thinking I'm going to have to constrain myself to stay within the 4point limit LOL

I sent mine to Willowe. I am going on vacation next week and I wanted to wrap up a couple of swaps before I left. I am going to be sitting on the porch of a cabin on a lake in the woods... no computers, no internet, no outside world... aww heaven....
at least for a week, longer than that I might start to go a little nuts Cheesy

oh does that ever sound like heaven.. makes me want to visit the inlaws....
7549  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: spikey cat collar- crochet! mildly pic chubby. on: July 14, 2009 06:32:08 PM
That's adorable!

If you have not already made this collar to break away if he gets caught in something, please do so!  The ones in the stores have a loop of elastic for escape room.  I know a cat who was hanged to death by someone using a non breakaway collar.

I love your kitty!  Cheesy

the collar is much to big for him, so I think he'd slip out of it before he sufocated to death.  But that is a very good idea for when I make him a leather collar when he's full grown.

And everyone before, thank you som much for the compliments. Grin
