7492  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Re: needle felting is confusing me on: September 15, 2009 09:22:53 PM
um... needle gauge.. thats one thing I can think of that may leave holes.... Like I use a 36(?) for rough start off work, and a 48(?) for all the finishing....  (or was it the otherway around........ lol  bigger needle for basic shape formation, smaller needle for smaller details, and a good once over at angle to make any "holes"  disappear)
Hopefully that's helpful.......  I've never done around a styrofoam form, but that is the only thing I can think of that would cause holes...

if you need a link to felted rope, here's one:
http://www.feltinglessons.com/Felted_ropes.html

I just made ropes for the first time, oh 20 minutes ago...  easy as pie!!!!  they were quite thin, but i did think of making myself some clip in dreads for when my hair grows back to the length it was (damn hairdresser and her happy scissors.......)  But the thought of the dreads came from makeing the rope.
As for just wearing them for one night, you could sew them to a headband, or maybe some combs, or even single bobby pins... and just wear a hat over top, I suppose it depends what you plan on being, but those are a few ideas....
Hopefully you find the link helpful!
7494  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Re: September Felt-along - preparing for OCT 3rd. International felt-bombing on: September 15, 2009 09:07:13 PM
I whiped out 3 necklaces.. okay well the beginings of 2, and finished the 3rd tonight.  LOVE em!  I've talked to the Bank (yeah theres only one here... ) and I have their permission to display some art work, and the necklaces are for the ladies that work the front desk.  I think I'll make the boss man a tie or something.....  Anyway i' m glad i'm finally making progress on it, albeit minimal.

yeah I would likely replace the carding cloth.  likely to 98tpi,  or more...  I found a site that sells it for 5.80 per inch, but I'm not sure how many inches i'll need.  I've messaged the seller though, to find out how big the drums are, to work out the price.  It may be more worth it to buy a new one in the end anyway.... we'll see Smiley

good luck with the Step moms surgery SML.  Also I say don't hesitate on the Traveler.  get that.  I lurve mine!
