401  Re: Bookmark Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Belladune on: January 22, 2009 06:06:10 PM
I recived two more today!!!  Can't wait to see the last!

Gossamer_gull sent me this one:

She chose my girlyness and my like of fantasy books and mushed them together wonderfully!!  I <3 it!  the mark to the left is the bookmark, and the piece to the right is a card from the stationary on which she wrote her note, and I believe the envelope was also from the stationary set.  Its pretty!

and Naggie Maggie sent me this one:
side 'a'

side 'b'

I love the paper she choose, and you can't tell in the picture, But the centers of the flowers match up with the dots on the other side, and there is a green sheet of sheer paper between so if you hold it up to the light it looks neat!

Thank you ladies!

402  Smelly ball! (good smelly ball) in Felting: Completed Projects by Belladune on: January 20, 2009 08:28:36 PM
so I made some needle felted balls earlier (here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=288178.0), and then I had the idea to stick some lavender in them.  this is what I came up with!  Its pretty, and it smells good!  So do my hands atm!

this ones just small, but I'm going to keep making these as gifts using different herbs.  and in different sizes.  find herbs that match, maybe dried flower petals...... oooh the possibilities are endless!

403  First ever Needle felted balls! And Happy kitty! in Felting: Completed Projects by Belladune on: January 20, 2009 01:23:07 PM
I bought felting needles 3 months ago, always with the intention of using them.  I was scared until laast night, when I was oh so terribly bored, and looking for something to do.  I had made myself some felt balls in just plain white in the washing machine. earlier that day, with the intentions of giving them to my cat.  But i had a tiny bit of left over roving from what I had spun and heard those needles calling out  to me!  This is what I came up with.  I absolutely love them!
with a quarter for size:

side by side:  The middle one is supposed to look basket woven.  it does not really, but i kinda like the weirdness of it anyway!

Happy kitty!  no shes not for the cat.  maybe my mom though Cheesy

thanks for looking!

404  Drumstick bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Belladune on: January 18, 2009 12:27:26 PM
So,  I was down at my sewing machine under the pretense of working on a swap.  I was actually making my husband a bag for his drum sticks.  The plan was to hang it on his drums and leave it there, but he walked in and wondered how it was going. I'm a terrible liar, so I told him what I was doing.  He loves the finished product!  and here it is for you to see:

I used an old pair of his cords to make it.  or, well a small section of them anyway.  I used the sewing machine and "free handed" the little drum set, just for fun.

I got one today!!!

from spotnik!

I love the choice of ribbon.  I'm not sure if it got humid somewhere in between, but the glue looks as though it turned blue Sad  I still like it though, and is coming handy  to mark that giant book I'm reading!
Thanks Spotnik!!

406  First birthday stacking ring cake! in Dessert by Belladune on: January 15, 2009 09:32:07 AM
So My baby turned one a few days ago and I made him a stacking ring cake.  Its no where near perfect.  I should have stuck with marshmallow fondant, but of course i tried something new (white modeling chocolate rolled out into sheets like fondant and failed miserably)  So seeing as I only had 2 hours to finish it, and thats not near enough time to make fondant, I just used buttercream frosting.

This is what I modeled it after (loosly).  Its his fav toy.  He'll spend hours palying with that thing!

This is the inside.  I did have an extra white cake layer, that was green, but the green a)tasted horribly like food coloring and b) did not look right with the cake as a whole, so I took it off.  Also the purple on top tasted like food coloring too, so for serving purposes it was removed.  It was chocolate

And this was his reaction.  Apparently we have never given him anything so sweet......

c&c welcome!

Thanks for looking!

407  knee pads baby, baby knee pads! in Knitting: Completed Projects by Belladune on: January 09, 2009 07:10:51 PM
so my poor little guy, we are renovating and have old school lino on our floor right now.   His knees have become so sore that he no longer crawls on hands and knees, but hands and FEET!  So  I built him these:

All I did was knit a rectangle that looked as though it would fit him. (rib knit 2x2 for about 2 inches,  then stockinette stich for about 3.5 inches ,then rib knit 2x2 again for about an inch)  Then knit another rectangle in garter stitch and attached it to the front.  Stiched up the seam in a whip stitch and voila! Baby knee pads!
Now, in hind site what I should have done was add an extra strand or two of yarn around the knee area, thus eliminating the need to knit the second rectangle alltogether.  Next time!
But here are some pics of him modeling them;

409  Re: Fiber Friday - January 9th, 2009 in Spinning: Completed Projects by Belladune on: January 09, 2009 09:32:28 AM
With my want to spin and dye more  I kinda went crazy this week.  I would have spun up more, but the silk took m e 6 hours to spin, and I can only spin at night, because my boys like to "help" when I do it during the day Sad  Can't wait for the nice weather and we can hang out in the back yard all day!
This is some silk I bought on etsy, and I spun it up with glass beads.  This picture does it no justice, its much more beautiful than this.  Its over 200 yards, I haven't measured persay, but I attempted to corespin (some of it ended up more plied) with some polyester thread to make it stronger, and I ran out of it before I got to the end of my  fiber and there was 220 yards of thread...  Oh yeah, the twist is not set, do you do the same with silk as you would with wool?

Also some stuff I bought from Wooly treasures on etsy.  It is amazingly even,  and I'm terribly proud of that.  I'm finally getting the hang of it!  about 100 yards

this is some of the above plied and I stuck some lincon locks in it for fun.  Just 10 yards.

My momma, loving me, gave me some bluefaced liecester wool for xmas (that and hand carders <3 <3 <3)  And this is how I dyed it:

and then theres this one.  I give up on greens, I can't get the right green I want with food dye.

and lastly this is a mess, but I figured I'd post it in hopes of a little help in deciding how to dye over the brown:

I dig your yarns,  ignorantamoeba !

410  OMG WHAT DID I DO?!?! in Dyeing: Discussion and Questions by Belladune on: January 04, 2009 02:13:44 PM
okay, well, I know what I did.... I tried to make brown.  FAIL.   I need to know if I can fix this?  Can it be re-dyed, or does that risk felting it?

I'll have to admit, its not a total failure,  I do like the violet and blue that came out of it, but the "brown", if you can call it that, is pukerific!

ps... ignore the fact that we are replacing our flooring....... >.>
