1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Little Adventurers! on: April 10, 2012 04:27:35 PM
Hello, Craftster!  I made these little cuties for The Toy Society.  I've yet to drop them though, as the weather has been dreary.

They were a quick, easy project but lots of fun.  They gave me lots of practice on my sewing machine and helped me to use smaller pieces of fabric from my stash.  Hopefully whoever finds them will give them a good home!
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Braid Tutorial on: June 14, 2010 12:28:52 PM
So, there has been a lot of inquiries about how I stitched the braids on Maude in the Lebowski piece.  I ended up doing a tutorial on my blog, so I thought I would post it on here too.

Don't be intimidated, it's much easier than it looks!

The pictures are pretty self-explanatory, however, I did explain each step in detail here-

Ok, here we go!

Thanks for looking, please let me know if you have any questions.  Go make something  Grin
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The Swap That Really Tied The Room Together (Fat with images) on: June 13, 2010 01:12:27 PM
I made these pieces for Sam (aka Sunnysidey) in a private swap on Swap-bot.  The idea was we would both embroider each other a scene and a quote from a movie and the recipient would have to guess what it was from.  Ironically, we both chose the same movie for each other.  Great minds, no?  Okay, so both of mine were a dead giveaway but I couldn't help myself.

The dream scene from The Big Lebowski- The Dude and his special lady friend, Maude.

I also made her this Fight Club Embroidery.

Thanks for looking, sorry about the picture overload  Grin  Comments and Criticism are always welcomed.  And don't hesitate to ask any questions.

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Dangerous. on: April 16, 2010 06:11:15 PM
I've been a busy stitcher lately.  You guys will be seeing a lot of me around here for a while.

It's another Godfather handkerchief.  I love these.  I can't stop.

Back stitched with DMC floss.

Many more to come, maybe I'll just add them to this post so as to not fill up this whole board with gansterisms.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / the 80s threw-up on this bag. on: April 15, 2010 01:46:07 PM
while looking through a binder of embroidery patterns I found this stencil I cut a long time ago.
I splattered neon acrylic paint on the front and back, then painted the stencil.  after a few coats of glitter paint on the word "parties" it was ready to be stitched.

Around all of the text, except for "parties", I outlined the letters with black DMC floss in back stitch.

And because parties should be wild and crazy I used glow-in-the-dark thread around the letters.  I did this part in a stem stitch.  It looks so awesome when it's all lit up!

Comments and criticism are welcomed and appreciated.  Thanks for looking!

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / So true. on: April 15, 2010 01:32:56 PM
A guy told my boyfriend this one day when he was at work.  It's very true, wouldn't you say?  I stitched it up for a friend of ours. Hope he likes it.

I wish I would have done the fill stitches a little different, the wires of the fan seem to get lost.

I mounted it onto foam-core using the awesome tutorial on here!  Thanks Muddlepud!

As always, questions, comments and rude remarks are welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks for looking have a creative day!
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My 1st and 2nd Drops! on: April 05, 2010 08:55:02 AM
So I recently made two little pairs of toys for the toy society, a group that encourages people to make handmade toys and leave them in public for children to find.  I love the concept, and had a great time doing this.  I'd highly encourage more people to join, what have you got to lose?

My first attempt at making a "real" toy with limbs failed miserably.  so i decided to stick with what i know- embroidery!
I made these with a "wee wonderfuls"  freebie pattern, i just embellished their outfits a little bit to make each one unique.  I also used vintage fabric, embroidery floss and poly-fill fiber.

here they are:

This is the back of the bunnies.  (For some reason I didn't get a pic of the back of the bears, i used a colorful, striped denim for them)

This is one of the places I left them to be found-

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Best Movies. Ever. - Godfather Quote Embroidery on: April 02, 2010 12:20:02 PM
So, they don't call me MafiosaGrrl for nothing.  I love mobster movies!  Almost obsessively.  I say almost because otherwise it sounds like my love for these movies is a bad thing.  In addition to loving mobster movies, I love quotes!  Quotes of all kinds, can't go a day without 'em.

I stitched these quotes onto handkerchiefs using black DMC floss.  The ones with the bigger fonts use 3 strands and the smaller uses 2.  I used the godfather font but I doesn't look so good on the smaller ones, i think i should have used a stabilizer.  oh well.

I have soooo many of these in the works but for now here are the fist three.

A classic from "the godfather"

A bit more obscure, but also from "the godfather".  When Carlo is about to get whacked to answer for what happened to Sonny.  Clemenza says this from the back seat of the car.

One of my favorites from "godfather II".  Poor Fredo, he's upset about being passed over.

Consider yourself warned, I have a billion other quotes on my "to stitch" list.  So, you'll be seeing a lot of them from me  Grin

Thanks for looking!  Have a craftastic day!
10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / If only this were real... on: March 18, 2010 11:39:58 AM
A few weeks ago I spotted a kid's drawing on the bulletin board of my favorite Irish pub.  The second I saw it I knew that it had to be stitched.

I whipped this up as a little gift for my favorite Publicans on St. Patrick's Day.

I used an old sheet that had long ago been cut into 13in. squares for embroidery.  I stitched it up with DMC floss, 3 strands for the top line of writing and 6 strands for everything else.  I used my trusty ol' crayolas to tint it and I glued the whole thing into a 12 inch wooden embroidery hoop.
