My boyfriend and I both LOVE the tv show Firefly, especially Jayne Cobb, so I decided to make him a fearless hat for vday:



But then I got jealous, and decided to make myself a hair clippy:


Here's the pattern for my version of this epic headwear:
JAYNE COBBS CUNNING HAT

1 set size 7 dpns
1 skein each of any worsted weight yarn in red (A), orange (B), and mustardy yellow(C)
1 yarn needle

HAT:
With colour B, CO 88 sts (22 on each needle) join without twisting
Work 3 rounds in seed stitch (Rnd 1 K1, P1. Rnd 2 P1, K1. Rnd 3 K1, P1)
K until piece is 5 long
Switch to colour C and K for 4 more inches. DO NOT BIND OFF
Thread the yarn through all the unbound stitches and pull tight to close the hole in the top of the hat. Knot securely and weave in ends.
Make a pompom with all three colours and attach to top
(I honestly have no clue how to make a pompom the right way, so I wrap the yarn around 4 fingers quite a bit, cut the yarn on one side, use a longer piece to tie around the middle, fluff, and trim for optimum poofiness)

EARFLAPS:
On each side of the hat, and with colour A, pick up 25 sts on the bottom edge. Work in K1 P1 rib for 22 rows.  Work 7 rows in stockinette to get the cunning curl, and BO all stitches.
