1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Snowflakes dipped in Wax (complete w/ photos) Folding tut added on: December 10, 2009 06:05:52 PM
Didn't realize there was action on this post this year!!  Here are the pics for dipping the flakes in wax.
I actually did something a little different this year and will try to get some NEW pics up of that!
This picture shows how I melted wax in a pan on the stove... you can use old candles or paraffin wax or beeswax would probably work too.  I use skewers to dip the flakes into the wax and then as I take it out of the wax, I let the excess drip off.  Then I lay on wax paper and sprinkle glitter (I like clear) over it before it hardens.

This year I used a electric griddle covered in foil for my heat source.  I found a large, round tart pan (or something) at a thrift store and melted the wax in that.  This was WAY easier and less messy . . . nice to have it out of the kitchen!!!

How about one of those "cookies in a jar" or a "soup mix" type thing.  .  Make a top for the vase with batting and fabric? Another idea would be Paper whites!  Tis the season for them and I bet the shape would be good for 3 bulbs.

I bought elastic that's only 1/4 in wide, do you think it will still work?  It's for a 4 yr old.

I love this idea!  I also love that you can move the cards around so the tasks don't get too mundane (if that's possible . . .) Great job on execution!

not to mention if I *cough* don't get around to finishing something... I can just move it to the next day... no commitment. I have 8 slots in each day, so I might get a little bit more anal and make up more cards to put in... I could have 6 a day for "pick up the toys in the living room"! jeeze.
I can just see my chart with all the week's cards crammed into the "saturday" slots!
