1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Jewelry and Trinkets Challenge 2--Winners! on: June 30, 2010 02:25:24 PM
Thank you to all involved with putting on the challenge. It's so much fun for the participants, and to win is a special honor because it's other crafters who cast the votes.
Thank you again!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Madwoman knits dress! (Witness: It was horrible!) on: June 02, 2010 10:40:15 AM
It looks wonderful! Excellent work.
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / J&T Challenge 2: All the Marbles on: June 01, 2010 03:46:11 PM
Hope I'm not the only one old enough to remember playing marbles on the sidewalk...

This bracelet is made of assorted round glass beads, and three actual marbles I got at a flea market last year. You'd think that since I normally do seashells, the "summer" theme would have been a gimme - but no. The first thing I thought of was that bag of marbles! This was the motivation I needed to actually try to use them.

Hope you like it!

4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet Cables on: March 21, 2010 05:55:17 PM
I learned how to make cables a few weeks ago, testing a pattern for a designer. This hat was improvised one afternoon at work, and there are a couple rows I'd do differently (if I'd written anything down) but I wanted to share. I think crochet cables are every bit as cool as knit ones, and far less traumatic if you have to rip back.

Sport weight yarn with an E hook. There are 12 repeats of the... motif? segments? I dunno. I should have increased the row before the cables crossed each other so it wouldn't pull so much, but now I know Wink

FWIW=For what it's worth.
Translation="Right now, this is what I would do, but I don't necessarily have any idea what I'm talking about, and somebody else may have a much better idea, so listen to me at your own risk!"  Grin

You'll need to figure out your row and stitch gauge. Figure out, based on the gauge, how many stitches around you want the arm at the end. Take that number and subtract it from the number of stitches you started with at the shoulder. This is how many stitches you'll need to decrease. You can use your row gauge to estimate how many rows the sleeve will be, and divide the number of decreases evenly down the length of the sleeve.
If you needed to decrease 10 stitches over 30 rows, you'd decrease one stitch every three rows.
That's how I'd do it, FWIW.
You might also consider the idea that the weight of the sleeves might pull at the shoulders, and with that neckline there's nothing to keep it from sliding off. Just a thought, looking at the picture of the sweater.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Fabric covered buttons into bobby pins on: March 10, 2010 08:04:06 PM
I'd use carpet thread or fishing line to sew them on. Maybe even wire, 28g or so.

V1 & V2, front and back

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Sorta Loaded... on: March 09, 2010 06:15:13 AM
The beads are all glass - there are no stones in this one. The shells are natural, I hunt them up myself at my favorite beach. Thanks for the sweetness everyone!

I've been threatening myself with DOOM if I didn't make a loaded charm bracelet. Here it is, at last... it's not as loaded as I had imagined, but I got to a point and liked it.
Scallop shells, with glass beads.

Hope ya like it!
