Could you use contact paper instead? it might make cleaner lines?

see I was making it much more difficult. I was reading to do it on stitch 4 and thinking "but then what holds it down if the whole thing sticks out of the 4th stitch rofl

I love it! 

But I am doing one and cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to put the mohawk fringe on.  I can do fringe on the edge of something but in the middle?  lol  I feel like it's probably really simple and I'm missing it.

I knit the hat for the mohawk hat from punk knits but can't figure out how to put the fringe on. 

What am I missing?  It's got to be simple.  I get how to do it on an edge but this is not done on an edge
