1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Underroos Wallet Cheaters Version on: January 07, 2009 11:05:00 PM
I was so inspired by the Underwear Wallet from here
http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=1246
But because I had just had my bad experience with a cassette tape wallet so I used my cheaters plan and recon'd a thrift store find. Here's the result...

The pics are sort of funky because the bias tape edge is way better looking in person. In the pic it blends with the Underroo trim. It's really secure and not coming apart like this pic looks.

Okay, I tried making Cassette Tape Wallets the traditional way but my turned out crappy and I felt crappy about how much stuff I wasted. So what's a hip auntie to do when she really knows her niecewants a so cool wallet? Cheat of course!
I found a pink wallet about the size of a cassette tape at a thrift store for fifty cents. I found a Donald Duck Safety First cassette tape for twenty five cents at the same store. I used super glue to attach the tape and so far it has held up just fine. I did Dremal down all of the bumpy stuff inside the cassette tape though.
So here's the $0.75 wallet...

Thanks for checking it out!!!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Yoyoed Fuzzy Black Purse on: January 07, 2009 10:42:11 PM
I had to make a gift for my 16 yo niece that was under $10.00 so when I found this purse at a thrift store for $3.00 I knew I had to get it. Some of the fur was rubbed off and it needed updated so off to my fabric stash I headed where I found lots of black and white fabric. I made yo-yos to cover the front. Some of them are kinda wonky but hey it gives it that homemade feel right? I forgot to take before pics but here's the after pics...

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Xbox Lunchbox Recon (img heavy!!) on: January 07, 2009 10:27:51 PM
Welcome to my first posted project! This year for my family's Christmas gift exchange I drew my BIL. A tough one under normal circumstances but throw in a $10.00 limit--down from $50.00 last year--and the new rule that every gift had to be handmade or thrift store finds and I had a conundrum. As I was frantically searching Craftster, blogs and the entire web I saw an old school Nintendo someone had gutted and turned into a box. At the time I saw it it didn't really catch my attention too much. However, a few nights latter I noticed our broken and unrepairable Xbox sitting on a shelf. The wheels started turning and this is what I ended up with. Of course when I went back to find the original inspiration I couldn't find it. BTW--my BIL always packs his lunch

I used one leather belt, some bolts, washers, and nuts, the XBox, and some silver bubble wrap looking insulation I found at my local home improvement store. First I opened the XBox by unscrewing some screws and then I started gutting it. After I got all of the guts out I used a Dremal to clear out all of the bumpy things--official term.  I made hinges, a latch and a handle from the belt that I attached with the nuts, bolts and washers. Finally I lined it with the insulation.
Here's the rest of the pics I took:
