21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The IT Crowd Swap R2 - (Signups 4/1-4/15) Sendouts 28th May on: April 27, 2010 05:50:50 PM
This may be a silly question but what do CV stand for.  I understand it's what we call a resume in the US but what do the letters stand for?

It stands for, it stands for commitment. It stands for audacity. It stands for courage in the face of.

Heh.

I also believe it stands for curriculum vitae which is latin for something that I don't know...

Black.eyed.spider - sorry to hear you're having Internet problems. Perhaps you should sacrifice something to the Elders...

And about the Heat, I get the idea and it sounds like it is the American version of our People magazine so no need to send one over, but thank you for the offer - what a sweetie!

T he he, there are 2 chocs I always like to send to US swap partners, kinder eggs and our yummy smarties  which are defo nicer than m&ms imho Grin

I had an IT Crowd marathon last night and there were lots of parts which I thought were potentially confusing to non-Brits, like the smarties.  Out of interest were there any other references in the IT Crowd or even words used that non-Brits had trouble getting??

What is Heat?
And I like American smarties, but that's not saying much because I am very indiscriminate when it comes to sweets.

Aww...sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Black.Eyed.Spyder. Hope you get better soon!

Here's something that's got me shaking my head in disbelief...the whole time I've been watching the show, I always thought "Cradle of Filth" was fictitious, made up by the show as an over-the-top spoof goth band name, much like Richmond is an over-the-top goth character. In doing "research" for swap ideas, I have learned there is actually a band by that name.

Wha?

Are they for real?

Do people take them seriously? Do goths take them seriously? Would Bauhaus take them seriously?

(And by "research" I mean watching clips of the show and enjoying them immensely, hehe)

I think you should "encourage" them to give you a payrise for the widening of your job description Wink  Plus maybe it would lessen the chances of accidentally breaking it, mu ha ha ha... evil... me?

Haha, you are dastardly.

Well, the memory is in and everything went very well. The only hitch was I had to look up how to take the side off of a Dell computer. And that's my secret - I look up how to do everything on the internet. Even though I make this widely known, they still give me the credit as if I have magic computer powers. Silly technophobes.

I'm sooo looking forward to partners. I need a distraction from my job, where one of my many hats is the IT hat. Funny thing, though, I hate doing IT work because I'm not very good at it. I just happen to be the person who knows the most about it.

I will be installing memory into my boss's computer tomorrow morning and I am 100% positive that something will go wrong. Like, everything will get erased and the computer will explode. I have never installed memory into a computer before!! What do I think I'm doing?Huh?
27  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Clapotis from Knitty on: April 14, 2010 04:22:53 PM
Hi! I started knitting this about a week ago and enjoying it very much. I'm almost done increasing. ' m using a sock weight yarn and I'm going to make it skinnier and longer than the pattern.

But I am wondering about something...

I think, every now and then, I may be forgetting to ktbl sometimes. Will that effect the final outcome of this? Regardless, I am not going to fix any of them because I can't tell which ones I forgot to ktbl and because I am a lazy knitter.

I hope it turns out okay. We'll see!
