11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Quilt Block Swap (Sendouts EXTENDED to April 26) on: May 23, 2010 01:43:15 PM
Maybe at the end of the summer if there is interest? I'm trying to clean up all my in progress stuff right now in anticipation for my two week vacation the end of July! A cruise in the Bahamas plus a week in New Orleans!

I was in New Orleans for a week last fall and I will never, never forget the bread pudding I had at Bon Ton. It is a must eat (as long as you can do bread pudding and whiskey).

I love the flying geese idea and the pieced border of strips idea, too. I think I will do both! Thanks, ladies!

Pics as promised:

First off, while waiting for all my quilt blocks here, I started making some wonky house blocks for myself to turn them into pillows. So far, only one of them has become a pillow:

Yesterday I put together the quilt top of the blocks everyone sent me.

One lovely lady sent beautiful string squares, which I turned into Scrappy Xs by cutting off some corners:

I wrestled with doing this because A) I wasn't sure I could make them into the right size and B) I really do want a string square quilt one of these days. But it worked out great as you can see below:

It is gorgeous and super cute just as it is, but, since there was no sashing, I would like to make it bigger by adding a border. I was thinking of incorporating the corners I saved from the string blocks and also another one of my partners sent along a bit of extra fabric that I can use, too.

Would a solid white border look good? That's what I've been thinking of doing then adding another border around that with the corners and colored fabric. I will play around with it in photoshop I guess. That might help me figure it out.

I just finished piecing all the blocks together that everyone sent me and I freaking LOVE this quilt top. Thank you, everybody!

I'm thinking about putting a border on it. I'll take some daytime pictures tomorrow and post them so you all can help me figure out what color border I should put on it.

I've got the large project well underway. Not quite sure about it yet. It certainly is something different for me. The boyfriend has complimented it so it may be a winner!

I've got supplies for my remaining two projects, as well. Now I've just got to do them...

All the blocks are looking great! I'm so excited to put all my blocks together.

Donniesgirl, those string blocks for klum78 are stunning. They are big time inspiring!

Woah - a co-worker just came up to me and told me something wasn't working on her computer and, w/o even thinking about it, i asked her "have you tried rebooting or restarting it?" then I laughed to myself while she walked back to her desk...

The first project I have been working on isn't going like I hoped. I think it will involve some hand sewing.

My second project is in the planning stages and my bf is scrounging his office for spare parts. He is bringing me a network card and a piece of server - should be interesting....

Wow, hemeroid cream - now that truly is an embarrassing purchase. And, those types of magazines like Heat or People have their place. I love it when I find one in my seat pocket on an airplane or in the waiting room of a doctor's office. But i would never be caught dead buying one!
