BUS stop, 135 Dore off Folsom at 10th
http://pandorastrunk.com

free admission
live music
free drinks

As the sun orbits away from the center of our city, keep the chill out of your bones with a brand new warm jacket and a story told by the visionary who made it!  This fall and winter Pandora's Trunk is opening anew, letting loose a wandering group of designers.  Like minstrels or troubadours, they are traveling from venue to venue with trunks and bins loaded full of clothing and secrets in equal measure.  Events this fall will take indie arts to a whole new level, blending fashion runway, storytelling, drag performers, accordionists, chanteuses, clowns, musicians, fine art, functional objects. Indie arts producers will also be demonstrating, interacting, and showing their work.

Engaging performers, live music, free refreshments, indie arts & fashion sale. These shall be our watchwords.  Check out the website to keep up to date on artists, performers, and mayhem.

And while you're at it check the rest of Pandora's winter season:

November 22nd, Saturday, from 1-5pm
Climate Theatre 285 9th @ Folsom
Come and hear the makings of our tale at Cabaret De(con)structiv.  Climate Theatre is giving us a cross between a runway and a cabaret stage.  We'll look inside your pants and tell you where they came from... telling a story using our ideas and our artifacts.

December 4th, Thursday, from 6-11pm
Brava Theatre 2781 24th @ York near Bryant
Watch the magic of our whole splendid story!  We will settle into a luxuriant restored vaudeville theatre, using its gilded proscenium to frame a fully produced fashion design storytale.

Hey there, I thought you bayareans might be interested to know about Pandora's Trunk in her new guise, an arts/design co-op with 11 members in the lower haight.  The artists share the rent and each have a section of the store of their own.  It's a pretty unique business model and one lots of you craftsters may be interested in!  Feel free to contact me if you are interested in learning more about the project or getting involved.

4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: How did you come up with your brand name? on: January 30, 2008 11:45:31 AM
an important tip is to make sure your name is a little bit flexible.  i started out making character hats and now make mostly menswear, but was able to keep my brand name because it's imprecise but cohesive and memorable.
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: braided rag rug on: January 30, 2008 11:42:56 AM
it is!  it's on the dog bed now and there are a few loose places but they could be easily fixed (i was also running out of hot glue when i made it).  i declare it a success!

murderous honey, what is the lower tattoo?!
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Business cards--Who makes nice round corners? on: September 20, 2007 09:04:44 AM
I've been dealing with overnight prints for a year or two, because i like the weight of their cardstock and the rounded corners.  this last time i ordered from them it was a priority order, though, and they screwed it up.  I got to thinking about how many of my orders they have screwed up over the years and it's most of them, honestly.  They are good for once-off but if you are looking to build a lasting relationship you would be well served to go local.
8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: IN HOME TRUNK SHOWS....what do you think? on: September 19, 2007 07:09:00 PM
i've seen this done, it's usually pretty low-impact on the neighborhood and on the house (although look out for the notorious wine spills).  i have a friend who does spa parties for people kind of like you are describing, spadeedah.com i think.  She had trouble getting people to understand the concept but once she did they were into it.  i think your hurdle will be marketing the idea to people, getting them to understand and try it.  think about how you will talk about it, the language is very important.  please use the word 'party'.

Pearl on market between 5th and 6th is the best place for good price art supplies, there is also flax further up market at valencia or so, it's a little bit more expensive and scrapbooky.  fabric head into the mission!

also check out this noncommercial arts & fashion discussion event ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=195807.0 ) i am throwing tomorrow night to learn about the SF small arts scene.

CELLspace (2050 Bryant San Francisco)

This salon is conceived and structured to allow the Expo's participating artists and their greater community to interact in a discussion-oriented setting.  We will be examining the relationship between non-profit and for-profit endeavors in the arts and media worlds and beyond.  Panels will include Melissa Alexander, new Executive Director of Black Rock Arts Foundation, Miranda Caroligne, local fashion firecracker and neophyte author, and Marie Kare, marketing genius behind indie craft sweetbox The Sampler (http://homeofthesampler.com).

In addition to the central discussion and panels there will be:

***"Hidden Histories" - An art exhibit that encourages the community to explore the various ways that space and place reveal themselves in San Francisco. The installation offers info on bicycle and self-guided tours and events in the city, to provide the public with a point of departure and the inspiration embark on an exploration of San Francisco's unique urban landscape.

***CELLspace information session - This valuable community resource is facing huge cutbacks and threats to its programming.  In the midst of a discussion on how we can sustainably fund the arts, get breaking news straight from the underground on what's happening with this great, art, performance, and community workshop space.

***live music performance

***sewing workshop in the loft
