1  Re: I've been destashing...anyone want some 'free' craft stuff? in ENGLAND by bekibutton on: March 23, 2013 03:26:45 PM
Waaah that is so spooky! I was only thinking the other day that I should probably put my latest box of (house-move-induced) destashing on here. I didn't know whether to resurrect the old thread or not but took some pictures about a week ago in preparation. So it is a bit weird that you've resurrected it for me Cheesy

Here's the latest lot - fabric, ribbons, beads, whatever else I've thrown in there!

As before I'd just like to be reimbursed for postage (about 7 last time) if that's OK and I'm allowed to say it on here! Smiley

2  Animal-themed stitched decorations for a nursery in Needlework: Completed Projects by bekibutton on: March 11, 2013 01:51:44 PM

Now that I've handed these over to my expectant friends, I can post them up on the internet!

They're expecting a girl and her nursery is decorated in pale yellows, greens and blues, with an animal theme. Both her parents love animals so I think she's probably going to grow up to be a zoologist or something! I offered to make a couple of things to go in the nursery and got a bit carried away Smiley

I basically stalked my friend's Pinterest for ideas! She'd pinned this (discontinued?) fox fabric on Spoonflower:

So I made some bunting:

and a felt fox stuffie (I love him so much I might have to make one for myself!):

I made three cushion covers:

An elephant hoop (the mother-to-be loves elephants):

And two mini (4"?) hoops featuring their cats (with little black seed beads for eyes) Smiley

My friends were very pleased with my creations (and I am very pleased to have a rest - for the time being!) Smiley

3  Quality Street costume in Costumes: Completed Projects by bekibutton on: December 29, 2012 02:40:07 PM
I don't know if Quality Street chocolates are sold anywhere else other than the UK, but if not, they're a quintessentially Christmassy selection of foil and cellophane wrapped chocolates in an octagonal purple tin. For my office Christmas party this year, the theme was 'Christmas' so instead of going as an elf or a reindeer or something similar, I decided to mix it up and go as Quality Streets! But, I didn't want to go as one particular chocolate, or the octagonal tin, so I decided to go as all of the chocolates!

Instead of using actual chocolates on my costume (thereby running the risk of melting and even theft of the chocolates by my greedy colleagues) I got my dad to carve foam into the same shapes as the chocolates, wrapped them in ordinary household foil, and then wrapped them in cellophane wrappers from actual Quality Streets (I've been hoarding them for years, mostly because they're brightly coloured and shiny Wink )

I made a headdress:

And a necklace with a Quality Street logo for the avoidance of all doubt as to what I was supposed to be:

And managed to find a dress in exactly the right shade of purple on eBay and stitched some of the fake chocolates to it:

More indepth info and pictures on my blog if you're interested Smiley

Hope you like it!

4  Re: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic OAT Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by bekibutton on: November 08, 2012 02:56:29 PM
Woooo so the postal service finally got its act together and I received my package from dreadlady over here in Blighty.

First up, a cool box decorated in the style of Luna's cutie mark, with lashings of glitter!

And inside, another, smaller box decorated with Rainbow Dash's cutie mark:

And, inside that, a tiny pair of pale purple button earrings!

The piece de resistance, a tote bag decorated with Crackle the dragon! I love his facial expression Cheesy

Also, a couple of extras in the form of a sheet of stickers, and a mystery pony bag thing containing Fluttershy (with a Rainbow Dash haircut) Wink

Thank you dreadlady! And apologies for living across the Atlantic and taking ages to receive the parcel Smiley

5  The first thing I've ever knitted! in Knitting: Completed Projects by bekibutton on: September 12, 2012 12:23:42 PM
I'm so proud of myself for finally teaching myself how to knit, I've been making excuses for far too long, so this year I set 'learn to knit' as one of my New Year's Resolutions. I thought it'd be nice to share my very first knitted creation with you all Smiley

The UK residents among you may have seen the little bobble hats gracing the top of a certain brand of smoothie bottle at a festive time of year, and my task this year was to knit at least one of them to send off to said smoothie company to help them raise money for charity. Et voila! The picture kind of gives away who it's for I'm afraid Wink

I love how neatly the rows turned out. I'm a little bit addicted to knitting now, though I'm still quite slow and prone to dropping and gaining stitches at random. Practise will make perfect I hope! If any UKers want to make some bobble hats too, you've got about a fortnight until the closing date - links etc in my blog (linked in my signature).

6  Re: Put a Bird On It! Swap - Send out Friday July 27th in The Swap Gallery by bekibutton on: July 12, 2012 12:25:12 PM
Wooo I received from Trekky today!

I got a selection of colour coded packages and a bird postcard explaining that the red ones were crafts and the pink ones were extras. My cat was very interested in them!

The first 'made' item was a gorgeous needle book with a very very cute picture of a budgie embroidered beautifully on the front. I love budgies!

Then a very bright crocheted bird - it reminds me of a chicken ornament I had, which is very appropriate as I used to keep chickens, and ran chicken-keeping courses Smiley Also, it has buttons for feet!

The piece de resistance: a handmade kakapo notebook, in lovely bright colours! If you don't know what a kakapo is, I urge you to check this video out Wink

Kakapo are my favourite Smiley

Speaking of which, Trekky outdid herself with the 'extras' she sent by finding this comic with a kakapo on the front!!

And inside, it mentions Codfish Island, where I volunteered for a fortnight! Cheesy

She also sent me a cool owl pen (the same as one I almost sent to her in my swap package!), some Scottish tablet and some very cool bird buttons. My other cat was interested in these bits!

7  Re: UK only swap - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by bekibutton on: May 18, 2012 04:38:14 AM
Rescued my swap package from the sorting office this morning, and I am very happy! We both love embroidery hoops so this is pretty much a hoopla swap  Grin

This is an almost exact copy of something I have in my Etsy faves (apologies for having so many faves oceansoul!):

'Button moon' Cheesy

This is to commemorate the fact that I'll be an Olympics GamesMaker in London this summer Cheesy :

Look at the lovely stitching Smiley

And I love birds so this is great - can't quite work out if it's also in my Etsy faves somewhere or not...?

I love the ribbon wrapping and beautifully tidied backs of the hoops - plus she added a little commemorative tag to each hoop Smiley

I'm going to have to up my game a bit in order to do justice to the return package for oceansoul! Thank you!  Cheesy

8  Anyone know what these findings are? in Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions by bekibutton on: April 21, 2012 03:03:49 PM
I acquired them years ago in a big bead mix that I bought. Now I'd like to get some more so I can use them for necklaces etc, but I have no idea what they might be called, in order to search for them. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

They're quite small, maybe less than half a cm diameter on the circular bit.

Thanks! Smiley

9  Internet & social-media themed cushions: Twitter, Facebook, Fail Whale, Nyan Cat in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by bekibutton on: March 25, 2012 01:18:53 PM
My friend asked me to make these cushions for him. They're all internet and social-media themed. I started with the Twitter bird one as it seemed like it was going to be the most straightforward. The cushion construction is very simple because a) I don't have a zipper foot for my sewing machine and b) I already knew a couple of these would be stress-inducingly long-winded without the added hassle of a zip.

The first and simplest - the Twitter logo:

The Facebook 'F' (this was a bit more difficult and I managed to sew the back pieces on backwards initially!):

The epic Fail Whale cushion (this took me the best part of 8 hours and a steep learning curve with some fusible webbing):

Google 'G' (I had the colours the right way round all the way through on this one, then stuck the G on the wrong way round. And that fusible webbing doesn't budge!):

Special surprise Nyan Cat cushion (my friend loves the Nyan Cat and thought the little bag I made a while back was great Cheesy so even though he only asked me for four cushions, I've snuck this one in too. Well, it was either going to be this or a Totoro one...I cheated a bit on this one and glued the felt down, I don't have enough time to hand stitch things this weekend!):

I hope you like them Smiley
