2  what would you make with 2500 yards of worsted hand dyed? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by knitster88 on: December 19, 2006 08:40:26 PM
Yup. I just received approximately 2500 yards of hand dyed wool from one of my favorite people in the world. She hand dyes yarn for the lys i work at and its all freaking gorgeous. This particular color way came about when i fell in love some koigu, but "f" if im gonna actually knit with fingering weight, a few weeks later my lady comes back with this beauty.  Now as cool as the yarn itself is, the super huge ball of yarn is almost just as sweet.

So, what would you knit with it? Im definitly thinking hooded cardigan, bell sleeves, wood buttons.

right now its 14 inches long, ye ha.

Enjoy! (greaaat christmas gift people!!)

4  Re: Felting with handspun coil yarn? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by knitster88 on: September 22, 2006 09:25:15 PM
wow..ive never seen anything like it. I dont think felting is the right place for that yarn. when you knit something that is just plain stockinette or garter stitch all stitch definition is gone, so you wouldnt be able to tell that it is coiled like that. there are other yarns that are thin then big then thin again (i know theres a word for this, but its just not coming to mind) and its been my experience that when knit up the knittyness is minimal. this is a HUGE picture of a hat i knit with schaefer  yarns elaine, in the colorway "woody".

sorry for the size of the pic, but you can at least see the hat well.

Ive never felted the stuff but my guess is that the variation in thickness would be unnoticable once felted since the knitted fabric is mostly smooth.

Now maybe that yarn knits up differently than im imagining, so anyone whose worked with the stuff PLEASe SPEAK UP. i could be just blowing hot air out my butt here. Ive never felted a knitted object (dont like the look of the stuff personally, LOVE needle felting though) but Id reccomend sticking with cheaper yarn like lambs pride since youre losing some of the most noticable qualities of expensive yarns.

5  Re: yet another anthropologie question in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by knitster88 on: September 10, 2006 08:17:13 PM
Im kinda anti-pattern ussually, im also a big time "instant gratification" knitter. i play more with interesting stitch patterns than actual "patterns". Ive got a teddy bear who ripped her original shirt so im makin her a sample.

is there any reason i cant knit the body in one piece?

knit bottom up until i get to the brown, then work as individual pieces, and make the split in the middle of a rib pattern (pp, k*split*k,pp), 3 needle bind off the circled stitches (shoulder)and then join the remaining stitches for the collar.

did that make sense? will that work?

Lothruin:
Do i need to do any armhole shaping? thanks so much for your help, this is my first time doing a sweater with out a pattern.

oh, and im thinking Malabrigio for yarn. Nice merino, reasonably priced, and since i just got a job at a yarn sotre that carries it.......even more reasonably priced.

aaand i made this handy diagram to how i think i need to do this...tell me if this is right.

10  Re: DIY craft kit swap round II (SIGNUP 12/03/05-12/30/05 ; MAIL BY 1/30/06). in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by knitster88 on: December 14, 2005 06:25:10 PM
My list that I can make is even less creative then everyone combined!!!!

Yikes.  I better do some serious new learning!

Any--who....I can do:

**Embrodiery (my fav)
**Simple jewelry
**Crochet
**Knitting
**Needle Felting (I have been obsessed lately...my mind is whirling with this)
**Simple Quilting

I really could work something else out too.  All it takes is a little research and some energy to experiment.

snack on!

Oooo...I forgot....I would love to create a how to a felted knitted goodies kit.

i REALLY want a needle felting kit out of this deal...it would make my heart grow three sizes (just like el grincho).

kits i can make
(offered on questionaire)
knitting (basic to a bit more advanced eg. round, dpns)
embroider
(not)
notebook such as this
sewn bags or other small projects

and id really really like to get either a...
neelde felting kit
or
spinning kit

and i have ooone other question......
are we expected to make a kinda "kit pak" or a cool holder for everything? sorry if that was already answered, i kinda just blew through the first few pages.
