1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Newbie First 'show and tell' billboard pants and western boy on: August 30, 2008 09:20:11 PM
Hi all.  I have been coming here for inspiration and motivation for a while.  I finally have something a bit 'new' to post to hopefully spark some sewing for little boys.  My kids are all 'horse crazy' and my youngest especially so.  He typically wants to wear a 'button shirt down shirt' and jeans.  Often with a belt, vest and cowboy boots (b/c that is what cowboys wear).  Ok, so I wanted to sew for him--inspirations from wardrobe refashions etc.  It started with these 'billboard pants' inspired from here:
http://community.livejournal.com/t_shirt_surgery/3597625.html
and
http://www.rookiemoms.com/make-some-easy-kids-pants/
but modified to use the full images on the front and back (one on each hip), so sewing only the crotch seam, inseam, and waistband...

Then I took it one step further for my little guy.  I cut up the side from the feet to the hip, added a strip of fabric, sewed the seam flat, then 'fringed' it.  The belt buckle was from some belt buckle fabric, just cut and appliqued.

And then one more change with a wider tummy hugging waist band (wide elastic) in a contrasting fabric--more like a belt Smiley

and with his cowboy and cowboy horse:

He has gone around in public with these and had some pretty good feedback.  All I care about is that he loves them (I will be making more as doing laundry every 2 days is getting old)!

Nice idea with the tulle in the middle.  No itchy scratchy legs!

I like the contrasting fabric at the waist and leg bottoms that matches the bias edge....  Very cute!

Oh, nice idea.  Maybe next summer I will have something like this ready so I can have my own beach towel back!  My dd has 'claimed' the biggest one even though it has my monogram on it  Wink

I like how you did the stretchy tabs on the sides.  Not many cds have that feature.

What a cute kid!  I bet you could just shorten if for a shirt and then make 200 more  Smiley

Very cute.  I wish my daughter would wear stuff I make her.  She likes more boyish clothes already and is only 6!  I may have to use this for a gift sometime for one of the nieces.
