1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Puppy card. on: February 10, 2010 03:36:10 PM
I am not a fan of buying cards with something somebody I don't know wrote on it. But I do like giving letters or notes to my friends when the occasion calls for it. So I started making my own cards.

This one was for a friend's birthday. She has a Basset Hound, so I sort of went with that theme.

There was another one --a chubby purple teddy bear-- but I forgot to take a picture before giving it away. Oops!

Making it was as simple as it looks, yet all questions and comments are welcome!

Edit: I'm trying to straighten up the pictures, but still can't figure out how!  Huh
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / A knitting needle gets its wish! (Fairy wand) on: February 10, 2010 07:45:03 AM
Yes, it took me all this time (from October till now) to download the pictures in my camera. How awful is that?

Ok, so last Halloween I decided I would be a fairy so I could wear a dress I don't get to wear too often. I lazed on the wings and bought a pair of very cute pixie wings. But when it came to the wand, I felt I could do much better with no money and just a few minutes of my time. And this is the result:

I basically dressed up a knitting needle. You can see its partner next to it for comparison. Everything I used, I already had laying around in my room. I pretty much save every bit of ribbon that comes my way. Since the needle was a lovely metallic blue, I let it show through the white ribbon I wrapped around it.

For the star, I used white felt (not a good idea but that was what I had), and yellow and gold acrylic paint.

And that's a lonely earring that lost its pair. I used some gold ribbon here so the golden star wouldn't be so random in the midst of the other colors.

My inspiration came from this one right here: http://www.make-your-own-baby-stuff.com/fairy-wand.html

It was super easy to make, so I hope this helps someone next Halloween!
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / "Economist" jewelry. on: October 07, 2008 06:33:27 PM
My dad is subscribed to The Economist magazine. And is also quite messy. So there are tons of magazines laying around, which every once in a while I pile up and try to get my dad to throw away some of them. Finally, one day, my hands being restless as usual (but not feeling like knitting or crocheting) I grabbed the issue on Japan's shrinking population and started folding!

The bracelets:

The rings (the one in the middle is slightly bigger):

On me:

And wearing them out!

They turned out to be sturdier than I thought they would be. I guess as long as you don't wear them out in the rain (or similar wet/humid situations) they should be OK. I didn't bother to reinforce them with thread either, 'cause yeah... I was lazy.

This is the tutorial I used to learn how to fold the links: http://www.gumwrapper.com/build.htm

I hope you like them!
4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Lil' dragon & cute hippo. 1st posted project! on: September 24, 2008 02:36:17 PM
Hello everyone!

Finally, I decided the day had come for me to contribute after a very long time of just looking around and being nurtured by everybody's creativity. (Though, officially, I only joined recently, and I guess I have contributed in a non-crafty way with the Spanish dictionary.)

Moving on to more interesting matters, here's my little dragon:

He was a collage of patterns and personal modifications. I started off with this pattern: http://www.angelfire.com/pa/ChloesCorner/MarjorieCrochets/index.blog/1295251/baby-dragon-or-baby-snow-dragon/
And then a friend made me realize a dragon is not a dragon without wings!
So I added the ones I found here: http://www.innerchildcrochet.com/patterns/the_golden_snitch.html
The day my boyfriend discovered him among my things, he said it was his favorite out of all the ones I've made and adopted him.

And I know you've seen this hippo, but I still wanted to show it:

This is the pattern: http://bittersweetblog.wordpress.com/2007/03/12/hungry-hungry-hippo/
Little hippo here is the only ami I've made that hasn't found a better home yet. It'll probably go to one of two friends who haven't got one yet.

That's it, then. If just one of you is glad to have met them, my day is done.

Bye!
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / English-Spanish Dictionary! on: August 24, 2008 07:57:48 PM
Welcome to Craftster's English-Spanish Dictionary!
Bienvenidos al Diccionario Inglés-Español de Craftster!

The purpose of this dictionary is to help out the Spanish speakers who might be having some trouble following the general conversation in English, given that this is the one and only official language on Craftster.
El propósito de este diccionario es ayudar a los hispanohablantes que puedan estar teniendo algunas dificultades para seguir la conversación general en inglés, dado que éste es el único idioma oficial en Craftster.

I hope it also helps those who don't know Spanish and might come across some interesting material in said language they would like to use.
