So I have a few finished projects to share, all of which I did using my favorite toy- freezer paper!

Firstly, I don't know if anyone here is a Saturday Night Live fan, but in December John Malkovich hosted and there was a sketch about two kids who want a calculator for Christmas. Basically what it boiled down to was Fred Armisen and John Malkovich saying "calculator" over and over in Christopher Walken-esque voices.

It's a children's size shirt, so I figure even if you don't get the SNL reference, you can still put it on a kid who likes math. 



Nextly I have some shirts I made for my improv comedy group. We're named 'The Francis Bacon Experiment' so I was toying around with some ideas, and decided to try my hand at making my own stencil...

I used this picture:



And came up with this shirt:



I'm really happy with how it came out, I've never really made a stencil before, so this was like a huge deal for me. 



The lettering is a bit off, and honestly no two of the shirts are identical, but it works since the group is named 'experiment' why should we all be the same? *shrug*




Lastly is a project I just came up with looking at the stencils I have saved on my computer from spraypaintstencils. com

There is also one more ufo on the right sleeve, I had so much fun making this one I almost couldn't stop tweaking it. I'm happy with where it is now though.

So I decided on a whim to give the whole freezer paper thing a try, and knew exactly what two projects I wanted to try with.

First off I did this stencil, I found online (so if it's yours and I didn't know please tell me, because I adore it).



It turns out that the cheap shirt I put it on, was ill fitting. Which is disappointing, since I bought two. (they were two for $5 at JoAnns, but apparently an adult Large is actually more like an adult Small in the arm areas? grr.) So it was time to Tim Gunn 'Make it Work^TM' and I decided to turn it into a cute tote!



It's a bit sloppy, because I didn't put tons of forethought into how I was putting it together. But I rather prefer it that way. If my mom had done it, it would be impeccable to the core, but I'm happy with how it turned out. The straps are the black of the tee shirt (it looks blue in the pictures, but it's actually black) and the pink flannel of the interior, one strap with the black facing out, and the other with the pink facing out. I constructed a small pocket on the inside.


For the lining I used this obnoxiously pink flannel that my mom had scraps of in the basement. (I think it was originally doll pajama pants flannel, but now it's inside of a tote.)

If I had it to do again, I'd slow down and think it through better, but there is a good chance it would still turn out the same. (tee hee) I was in a rush because I was so mad about it not fitting. I was so proud of how it turned out that I was devastated I couldn't wear it. I still love it as a purse though.


The other project I cranked out last night I am even more intensely proud of. (a) because I love using the freezer paper, I've never done it that way before and it was soooooooo easy!!! and (b) because I've been wanting to do this design for a while now, and it makes me giggle.

Without getting (too) political let me just say I'm a liberal democrat, and thus support Barack Obama. Another note about me is that I'm an improv comedian, and love clever tee shirts. So after I decided to make this shirt I began to see it elsewhere and namely at the Second City Toronto (a famous improv comedy theater), as the name of their current comedy show.


So without further stalling for time.......




Yay! Same as above, I used freezer paper to help with the design. I used whatever paint I had around (I think it was acrylic, so who knows how long the design will last, but I can re do it with better paint if need be). The paint was white, so the red and blue are fabric markers over the paint.

So I've had this for a while now, but since I'm new I decided to share! I found the stencil in a Garden State community on Livejournal, and knew that it needed a home; on a shirt; on me. I got the shirt on sale at Target. It didn't photograph too well, it's a pretty light blue (slightly sheerish).

It started out as an iron on, because I'm no good at cutting out stencils, but when the all black design didn't transfer right, it left a guide to go back over with marker (sharpie or fabric whatever I have on hand).



I placed the design of Sam and Largeman kissing toward the bottom left of the shirt, with a line from one of the songs in the movie trailer ('Love Will Come Through' by Travis, download it! it's lovely!)



It's not the prettiest ever, because what did iron on makes it difficult to color over.... But from a distance it's pretty effective.



The lettering transferred better than the design, but I go over it with marker occasionally to keep it from fading.



The back under the collar, I put the name of the movie, just for those who have to ask me what the blob on my shirt is.
