11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Painted sheets on: April 08, 2013 07:18:08 PM

I had some white sheets that I spruced up with colors.
First, I drew some basic shapes on paper.

Then, I  took some Dye-Na-Flow, mixed a camaieu of colors and diluted them more for the background.

I took all the paints and brushes outside, along with the sheets. I put the sheet up on the swing which was fine until the wind came. With more wind, I had to finish holding the sheet horizontally in front of me.

This is a picture of the work in progress with a plank to prevent the sheet from blowing away. As you can see, the Dye-Na-Flow really flows so it makes wide lines that are not always the same width. It's better to let the drawings dry before adding the color for the background if you do not want them to bleed into each others.

Once I was done, I let it dry for a couple of days. Then I ironed it to fix the colors and just to make sure, I put the sheets in the dryer.

Of course, the cat had to test it.

And a last view for a closer look at the cat our at the design, up to you! Wink

12  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / watercolor dogs on: January 05, 2013 06:25:18 PM

For a swap, I made watercolor paintings of my partner's dogs. I saw her white great Dane and the watercolor image of him/her came in my mind. Since it was the HoHoHo swap, it really didn't fit the theme. So, I drew dogs on fabric I used to make a tree skirt but the great Dane still wanted to come out. When I had every thing ready to ship, I took out the watercolors and decided to sent them as extra. I searched the web to find pictures of her dogs. I took me two days to paint the four of them. And now, I have discovered she has a fifth dog! I hope it's OK that he doesn't have his own portrait. Undecided So sorry, doggy, I didn't know you existed.
I took very poor pictures of them, as I did not set the white balance and the whites turned out blue, truly blue. So I tried to fix the images on the computer but I lost some nuances.

You will notice one of the eyes is so dark you almost don't see it. It was that way on the picture but now, I think I should not have followed reality and instead put some clear half-circle around the bottom part of it. What do you think?
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Santa Stuffie on: December 13, 2012 06:27:35 PM

In the Ho Ho Ho swap, I made a stuffed Santa for my partner to sit on her couch. I drew it, then painted it on thick white fabric. I used only red and white and a very simple design to give it a modern Scandinavian feel. I tried to make it merry so people would want to hug him and smile. What do you think?

14  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Mini 13 days halloween on: October 24, 2012 02:30:32 AM

This is most of what I sent to my partner in the mini 13 days of Halloween swap. Many of my creations were inspired by her pinterest list.

Shimmering, shiny, color changing fairy's wings that she can insert in the back of a corset or wear with the support and ribbon harness.

Two skeleton dolls un-living in their coffin.

A mug with a raven and a nevermore spoon to go with it.

The chest she inherited from her cousins from Transylvania, full of memorabilia:  Count Dracula's wooden welcome sign, Countess Bathory's journal, a handmade small notebook, a secret letter, an emergency blood supply, a seal with wax ( made from a button) and, a vampire necklace.

A folding top hat that fits in a two inches high box.

Sam plush

An Halloween umbrella for her mom:

Some creepy jewelry including a cameo necklace, a witch glass square and an anatomically correct heart.

Two voodoo dolls:

A Dia de los muerte mask:

A fairy house for her cat with hammock that my cat tested and and some catnip toys.

Snow White's box with mirror, potion bottles, handmade tiny cups and tweezers, book of potions, dripping candle light and poisoned apple.

Thanks for looking. It was a lot of fun to make.
15  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / skeleton felt doll and cat on: October 18, 2012 07:24:45 PM

For the mini13 days of Halloween swap, I created her skeleton doll and her cat.

I made the black doll first, filled it and then sew the bones on.

For the whiskers, I used some plastic and I embroidered the tong.

This is their home.
16  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Sam plush from the movie Trick-or-Treat on: October 17, 2012 02:06:58 PM

I made this plush for my partner in the 13 mini days of Halloween swap.

It has bendable arms and legs and can remove it's costume to discover the real Sam.

He took his bag to go Trick-or-treating and has already eaten a big chunk of his lollipop.

I must admit he doesn't always play nice and he took with him his candy blade.

I made him a Jack-o-lantern so he wouldn't feel too sad once Halloween is over.
17  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / advent calendar on: October 14, 2012 04:05:57 PM
Would you be interested in swapping advent calendars?
Would you like them to be traditional with drawings only?
The advent calendar with the containers but empty? The whole 24 days with presents ?

An advent calendar is a calendar for all the days of December up to Christmas. Everyday, you get to open a window and see an image or get a chocolate. The fancier ones lets you discover a present everyday. It's a lot of fun to receive.

Let me know what you think.
18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Zombie necklace on: September 26, 2012 12:23:57 AM

I made a zombie necklace with copper, brass and silver.

For the heart, I saw the two sides and drilled holes. Then, I threaded a long metallic pin to attach the two sides.

I drew the zombie and cut all the parts. Then, I soldered all the pieces. My torch was small and I had trouble getting the metal hot enough to have the solder melting in the right place. I polished it with a small handheld drill and black sandpaper.
I only broke two drill bits and a few saw blades!
19  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Hawaiian rag quilt on: August 03, 2012 10:17:16 PM
I just finished my first quilt. I was inspired by the baby crib rag quilts. It's made of Hawaiian print fabrics and solid blue with a layer of flannel in between.
