There were some great new projects to look at. That made me forget that I came her to put my projects.

I made a toy for the cats: Whack a mice.

a cardboard box with holes,a paper bag with slits over the holes, a stick with some green felt wrapped tightly in a ball at the end. This cat loved it and kept trying to catch the green ball. My other cat enjoys much more to play by herself with the paper bag. Wink

I have also tried making pasta again. I made a dryer dough and added more flour on the table. I also dried the spaghetti on an improvised rack. It was a success.

With the same dough I also made ravioli.

They didn't last long!

I've been making up new recipes lately. As I had stopped at the farm to get fresh eggs, I had to use them. It turned out that they disappeared very fast in fact. i tried to make low calories lunches.

Diced carrots, zucchini, tomatoes and onions cooked in the pan.

Pan cooked spinach, mushrooms and bacon.

Challenge entry

One more new recipe

I mixed mango, pineapple and passion fruit juice to create a fruit puree to pour on yoghurt.

I used the last passion fruit from the garden. To make it easier to extract the juice, I first put the seeds in the blender for a short time. Then, I used a spoon and a chinois(colander?).

January Challenge entry

I sure made a mess in the kitchen trying a new recipe. Inspired by the challenge,
1. A new year, a new you---a project that involves organizing or improving your life: a new outfit, a new recipe, a new scarf, an craft supply organizer
I made fresh pasta from scratch.

I dug out a pasta machine found at the thrift store a long time ago and searched the web for a recipe.
Making the dough was quite easy. Rolling it in the pasta machine was fun. Cutting it proved more difficult as it did not always cut completely through but I got some nice pasta nests drying on the table.

Sadly, the drying was not successful. The spaghetti and fettuccine each stuck together, especially the one that had to wait longer before being boiled. After researching it( but too late), I discovered that the dough was likely too wet and I should have added flour.
It still was good to eat but not very pretty, nor thin and yummy like I had envisioned.

47  Santa's elves' workshop in Winter Holidays by yoopidou on: December 29, 2013 11:09:41 PM

For my partner in the IYP, I created Santa's workshop to fill her Advent calendar. I made the wooden workshop and the trees, and the table out of thin plywood. The furniture is made mostly with balsa. The accessories are made mostly from polymer clay, but also from wire, wood, fabric, paper, cardboard...

The elves are bendable and pose-able. I made an armature with wire. I added heads and shoes with polymer clay and put them in the oven. Once cooled down, I wrapped embroidery floss around the hands shape with a needle. Then, I wrapped wool roving around their bodies and felted the roving with a three needles tool. After that, I sew, cut and, embroidered them some tiny clothes that can be removed.
I made 6 elves who each are in charge of a part of Christmas.
The elf in charge of the mail and the naughty or nice list.

The elf who stuffs the toys. Well, he just had a little accident and fell head first in the stuffing.

The carpenter elf is able to create lots of nice toys with all his tools.

This elf has lots of ribbons, tags and wrapping papers and can wrap toys real fast, and neat too.

The sewing elf has a sewing machine, but he also can sew by hand. He embroiders too and likes to choose fabrics from the many ones he stores on his shelves.

The cooking elf is very busy at this time of the year baking cookies and cakes an candies.

All the elves like to take an afternoon snack together. They talk together while enjoying the baked goods.

Here are some of the toys they made this afternoon.

6. Art: first oil pastel
I think I should apply more pastels to get it thicker-not sure though.
at the beach

7. Art: explorations
I have tried melting the pastels. So, I used a heat gun, the heated pastel leaves a thick trace but it cools down very fast.
Then, I tried drawing on an electric grill plate. This works fine. The heat has to be high enough. It leaves a thick layer. It reminds me of Impressionism but it uses pastels like crazy.

8. Cooking:I created this recipe: egg-spinach-mushrooms and bacon

9. Cooking:I created this recipe: egg-zucchini-carrots and more

10. Cooking: Since the terrible burn accident last year with falafels, I had not made any from scratch. I tried again but cooked them in the oven. No oil burns and less fat! It's not as good though but we liked it and ate it all before taking a picture. So, here is why you should not fry falafels made from canned chickpeas as they are too wet.

11.Art: new medium; pastel- second try
Hawaiian monk seal on the beach
