1  COOKING / Dessert / Raving for Rabbids? on: January 26, 2009 06:03:30 PM
In the last few years I've gotten interested in decorating cakes and such. So, when my brother's birthday came around, I knew I had to do something special, random, and something he wouldn't think I could do. Last year, I (with the help of my mom) made him a Nintendo Wii controller, this year was different though.  After pondering on what to make, I finally figured it out. A Rabbid cake!

My brother doesn't like Fondant, so we had to use icing the whole time. You eventually learn hot water is your best friend for smearing it on the easy to pull off cake. The eyes. After first we thought of marbles and my mom thought of a wooden ball. I then had the idea to use giant gumballs, so we got four giant gumballs (just in case we had any mess ups) from those gumball machines. (I used hot water to strip the gum of it color and then used icing gel to make the pupils and rings) All and all, it took about four to five hours to finish, but it was well worth it. He was super surprised and couldn't stop smiling.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Machine or Serger? And what Brand? on: October 09, 2008 11:08:43 AM
I'm a beginner sewer and I'm planning on getting my own sewing machine/serger, but I'm not sure which one I should get. I know, since I am a beginner I should start off slow and with a sewing machine, but I plan on making more clothes then anything, which where the serger would come in handy. I'm only allowed to get one for probably a year or two. Also, my mom has her own sewing machine, which I could borrow, but whenever I use it, the top thread gets stuck in the bottom and it gets completely jammed. We have to take the whole bottom apart to get it unjammed.

Also, if you were to get a serger/sewing machine, which brand would you get it? I'm not really good with choosing brands of things...haha. >_<
