Okay, so I made this robot for my baby step nephew.  I wanted the arms and legs to be wrenches, but they ended up looking like lobster claws and bird feet.  I was going to continue with the mutant theme and give him rabbit ears, but the guy has enough appendages as it is.

This is crazy awesome.

I like it a lot.  It's trompe l'oeil.

Turquoise, red and white is one of my favorite color schemes.  And I love the exposed zipper.  It's really striking.

I made a couple more stuffed animals and I want to show them off.  This first one is a patchwork octopus.  I didn't name her because I gave her to a baby.


There was a crazy period of my life where I became totally addicted to the 80's video game KLAX.  Then one day when I was arranging my Anthropologie initial mugs I realized that I had all the letters to spell it, and decided it was the perfect name for my new spacey soft guy.

I made up all the patterns myself, except for the pig/wolf, and all the fabrics are leftover scraps.

Yes, it is from Therese Laskey's book.  I probably should have mentioned that, but I didn't use the pattern for the monster from the book.  I just cut it out freehand and used the one in the book, which she calls "Patricia" as an inspiration. 

And no, I can't imagine cuddling up to vinyl either.  I'll make the baby something else.  I have all week and I'm already done with my halloween costume. 

I'm going to name her Penelope.  And not because of that movie with Christina Ricci where she has the pig nose.  I've loved that name since I was a kid and never given it to anything. 

Hi Craftster!

I made a monster softie using scrap fabric.  I made him because I need a gift for a baby shower.  Am i the only one who makes these things and then can't bear the thought of a child slobbering all over them? 



He's made out of embroidered velvet, brocade, something sparkly and knit, and black vinyl.  I think I might make several softies in this week before the baby shower and give away the one that I like the least. 



For my next challenge I think I'll try and make a softie that can sit up on it's own.  This guy can only sit up against something. 



That's his distant cousin the pig/wolf.  IF I were to keep the monster he would need a name.  Any suggestions?  If not he'll just be monster 1.  Then I'll make monster 2 etc.

I think that the craftster community deserves a shot of the fine embroidery.  It's just a messy little ziggity zaggity.
