1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My 3rd poppet for my poorly SIL on: March 04, 2009 01:13:18 PM
This is the third poppet I made. My sil fell in the work car park during the really bad snow we had a couple of weeks ago and broke her left wrist. She's been feeling pretty down since it happened and we live too far away to keep going to see her to cheer her up.
So I made her a poppet with a pot on her wrist.

She says she really likes her but since then she's strained the tendons in her right wrist and it's now in splints  Roll Eyes
so now I need to make her some splints and put them in the post  Cheesy
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / How spolit am I ??? on: March 04, 2009 01:00:04 PM
So- I have been trying my hand at sewing after years and years of paper crafting. My OH bought me a new sewing machine which I have had propped up on a set of plastic drawers whilst I sat spread legged around it surrounded by mess. The room was originally designed by OH to be used whilst I was cutting, pasting and making shiny.
Then one magical day I went to work as usual and came home to this-

He's lowered the work surface for me, drilled me a hole in the top to put my wires through, set up my speakers and had a general tidy around. I still need to get in it and organise it but for the moment I'm just loving sewing without a bad back.
As I said- how spoilt am I  Grin
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / More poppits- but my first try... on: January 25, 2009 02:26:39 AM
OK, be gentle, This is my first and second attempt at making anything other than rectangular bags.

These are my two girls, The purple haired one came first and the nakie one came second.

Not made with any doll joints because I can't find any and also no doll eyes, her eyes are black beads. She has permanent super glue marks on her cheeks. I sewed her head together the wrong way up and decided to try gluing on her eyes. Then i realised that she was on the wrong way round, removed the eyes and unpicked then put her back together.

Also no doll joints but I did find over and hour and a half's drive away some brown or orange eyes. She came out a lot fatter and I think it shows that my sewing skills have improved a little.
I made one major mistake and forgot to leave her neck hole open when I sewed her head. I unpicked where I thought it was supposed to go and ended up with a poppet that looks like miss piggy from the side.
I have thouroughly enjoyed making these and plan to make many many more.

Maybe one day I'll be consistant  Cheesy
4  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / dress forms and fabric in north east england on: October 07, 2008 07:28:00 AM
Hi all.
I'm looking for a bit of help.

i've just started sewing and I want to have a go at making my own clothes. i'm a funny shape so I think a dress form would be a good idea.

I live in hartlepool near Newcastle in the north east of England and I was wondering if anyone on the site knew of places to buy cheap fabric and dress forms?

Thanks! and I hope this is in the right place.
