11  Re: Abandoned Art Craftalong in Craftalongs by sheepBlue on: August 09, 2014 01:10:17 PM
Wow, that's a lot!! I hope you hear back from some people - that would be so cool.

I managed to remember to drop a few of my crochet stones in my bag on my way out today and so I abandoned 2, one by a tree near the mall I work by...it seemed like a good little niche to place it in...

And then among some rocks and grass along a path near my apartment...

And better pictures of the rocks  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=435041.msg5229552#msg5229552

12  Crocheted River Rocks in CHALLENGE 101 ENTRIES by sheepBlue on: August 09, 2014 10:50:31 AM
I've had these river rocks in my stash forever and last year picked up some crochet thread to try my hand at the beautiful crocheted patterns I've seen done on river rocks. Cue to finally a week and a half ago, I decided in a moment of low-but-antsy energy to try to make these. It's all done on the fly, no pattern just making it up as I go....obviously I might need to refer to some patterns now as my skill in variation tops out at about 3 or 4 different patterns haha. But then again, most of these rocks are rather small so it makes much variety a bit difficult.

One will definitely be converted to a necklace pendant, but the others I am abandoning around town for fun. A little spot of unexpected beauty in the most mundane of places  Smiley

Here are my first offerings to abandon. I've always loved the look of crocheted rocks..(sorry for the horribly grainy picture). I'll have better pictures when I set them in the wild. I've been working on these in spare moments since last weekend. I had a whole bag of river rocks that I have used half up now.

There's one rock that I used a dark blue yarn with but I really wasn't a fan of how it looked. The white against the stone is so simply beautiful I think.

Found my camera  Cheesy

An inchie, simple, no-fuss peas. I wanted to see if I could use the picot stitch to act like the pod....it was..sort of successful.

And another swirly 2" (this one took a while)...I feel like the colors are less cohesive than the tree one I did, but I still like it...

I agree, I really like how the sewing machine came out.  Smiley

A few more stitchings - funny how productive I can be when I should be packing boxes! I'm very sure my productivity is going to take a nose-dive for the next week starting tomorrow since I'll be very busy between work and moving.

Honestly, I'm not sure what kind of skull this is...and my stitching turned out a bit narrower than the image I was referencing...some sort of carnivore obviously..

This one was supposed to have a bit more of an under-the-sea, bubbly feeling, but went more microscopic critter instead...

16  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2014 in The Swap Gallery by sheepBlue on: July 13, 2014 02:13:42 PM
I'm so happy you like it Sarcastra  Smiley It was a joy to make and includes a lot of beautiful little pieces I've had in my stash or found in walks near my home that were a perfect fit when put together.

I received a great piece of art in return from Sarcastra - again, the key to our swap was arty and experimental, and I love how she chose to interpret it.

(Disclaimer: I'm sorry my pictures truly do not do justice to the many details in this piece. All my good photography stuff is all packed up in boxes right now. Sarcastra, if you have better pictures please please please post them  Smiley).

She created a framework of wild wooden sticks, woven together and through with strips of linen (?), with beading detail, wire weaving, yarn weaving, all combined. It is so delicate and intricate, I'm shocked but happy it came through the mail in one piece.

Each strip has tiny beads embroidered on - must have taken forever!

I am envious of her wire wrapping skills. There's little details like this throughout the whole piece.

Gorgeous. Thank you so much Sarcastra for swapping with me. It was a pleasure getting to know you and receiving a fantastic piece of original art at the same time  Smiley

I received from Averia today !! Don't listen to her if she ever tries to undersell her awesome stitching skills!!

I never told Ave this but I wanted a dragonfly for my stitched nature collection, and was planning on making it but she beat me to the punch! The wings are so fine and delicate - so much better than mine are!!!

She also did this super tiny crazy quilt twinchie which holds a special place in my heart because crazy quilts are all my mom makes quilting-wise and this definitely reminds me of her. Look at those tiny decorative stitches!

Thank you so much Averia! I love these twinchies and will treasure them. Thank you!

The ballerina slipper is so cute. I like how you used the different colors in the slipper, I usually think of it in one solid tone.

I've been in more of a doodle-y mood lately. Graphic eye doodle - 1 inch!

This started out as just a pair of lung-shaped veining...but it felt a little too plain?

I made this one last night - a bit of rustic applique, beading and stitching.

Am I the only one wondering what "chess" is? A little help? The pie looks great though  Cheesy

World Cup beards sounds perfect! I know some people who would love to rock something similar for their own local soccer teams.

I finally sent off a package for a personal swap and it was received so I can share it here. Another experimental weaving project, I wanted it to feel natural and have natural elements in it as well. The rock was a toughie, I had to actually glue it in so it wouldn't accidentally pop out.

I received a most remarkable "twinchie" from jemimah last night!! I'm still oogling how she did it all...combining two things I love: stumpwork and tiny model people (thanks to MissingWillow's tiny model people crime scene).

It's 2 inches x 2 inches x 1.5 inches and is so light! The fabric she used to cover the box form is a gorgeous silk I think? And those poor helpless men....tsk tsk....I always knew there were monsters in the ocean.

No sir, swimming to the giant tentacle is not going to help your friend. But those tiny french knots are so perfect too!

Hold on buddy, you're in for a not so pleasant ride.

Ahhh its all so masterfully done. I love it so much! Thank you so so much Jemimah  Grin I will treasure this....and study it. I still am mystified by fully 3-D stumpwork and this just makes me want to try try again.  Grin
