This isn't for my own wedding, but I kinda wish it was. I'm so inspired by all the day of the dead wedding stuff out there, I just had to make a Day of the Dead Unity candle!!



It's a machine embroidered sugar skull design stitched on organza. I used spray adhesive to adhere it to the candle, and covered the edges with ribbon. It was so simple! Plus it smells like apple crisp...mmmm...

Here's a bit closer shot of the embroidery. I think the stitches actually give it a really cool almost 3D effect...



My friend Danielle (she had a halloween wedding a few years back) quickly stole this and won't give it back...

Becha don't have a mirror that gives you a cordial greeting every time you look into it!



A little frosted spraypaint, a stencil I designed, and voila! A cheerful mirror.



Mirrors, btw, are very very hard to photograph. That's neither here nor there, but I just wanted to share my frustration.

I'm in awe... is this hand stitched?

No, this is the machine embroidery version. All though I've seen tons of hand embroidered versions that look awesome

I thought I'd share a rockin' jacket I made for our next ad, the Dia de los Muertos Jacket! Our fabulous Danielle is modelling, and decided the jacket I found and stitched was hers. A battle ensued. Then Karline decided she wanted one. Now we think we might make a bunch and be a little embroidery gang. Whacha think?

Anyone got a name for our newly formed rough and tumble embroidery gang?

I'm a crafter, but I'm an artist too! So I crafted my very own handmade sketchbook



The design is machine embroidered on felt, and the fabric has double sized interfacing iron in between the two layers to give it a nice sturdy cover, but leaves the binding nice and flexible. I then just stitched in some folded pages. Ta da! Sketchbook



Open it up and sketch your masterpieces! Or a 5 minute sketch of what was supposed to be your left hand but looks a bit more like a monster claw with sausage fingers.

Meh.

I'm diggin my new sketchbook. Plus is was really really easy to make! I'm thinking this would be a great way to make a custom photo book or guest book.

I needed a new sign for my studio door. Something welcoming and cheerful. Something that says, pleas don't bother me when I'm yelling at my machine or creatively cussing at my seam ripper.



A piece I designed, transferred using a photocopy and golden gel medium. I painted some rough color behind it first, and then added some fun alphabet stickers. I also added some copper leafing to the eyes and bolts, just to steampunk it up a bit.



I gave it a coating of varnish and now it's my new door sign!

I mostly eyeballed it, then tried it on and adjusted it as needed. It did take quite a bit of fiddling to get it right, but it was worth it in the end

I used to live in fear of the zipper. No more little plastic zippy teeth! I have conquered you! I made a zippered makeup bag!!



Now my mascara won't fall out of the medicine cabinet and bonk my fiance on the head when he opens it. No sir. They'll all be neatly organized in my little lined pouch. I also added some love-ly (har har) machine embroidery.



And it even has stitched in lining!



Everyone together now... oooh, aaah.
