11  My new 401A:) in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by xangomommy on: September 25, 2008 10:05:40 AM

In another post, I wrote that I had an option between a 301 and 401 but not both. I opted for the 401A.

I had to go to another state (an hour drive) --the backwoods of West Virginia to get this, LOL. Got lost several times but my husband was with me so I wasn't crying...would have if I were alone.

Anyhow, the story is that I was looking for a cabinet for my White Singer 15 clone (the blue one) and saw an ad on Craigslist for a cabinet with sewing machine in need of repair. I emailed the seller to find out what model machine and she told me that it was a 401A. No value on the sewing machine but the table was $40. I wanted to run to her house!

Anyhow, got it home but only had time to dust her a bit. She is in great condition. I will have to open her up to clean and oil because according to the seller, she bought it for the table some 6 years ago and have done nothing with the machine. She did have it beautifully cleaned and kept a dust cover even in the cabinet.

The cabinet is 1958, awesome condition. And the machine is dated 1951. I'm a happy camper:)

I am loving my Singer 15 clone. It's does only straight stitches but it's got power -- 1.3 amps.  And it cost me only $5 at a yard sale:)Smiley

13  Need help identifying this Singer model, please. in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by xangomommy on: September 21, 2008 09:07:19 PM

This is listed in my local craigslist for $35 but I can't tell what model it is. Does anyone recognize it?

Thanks.

Edited: Is this a 301 by chance? If so, which would you rather have? A 401 or 301? There is a 401A on craigslist as well for $40. Help me decide!

sapphire, you are certainly hitting the jackpots! Amazing finds:)

missmigraine, your machine is so pretty in that blue!

I added another machine to my little collection. I got a Kenmore 117.813 off craigslist for $20. I didn't realized that one of the drawers opened and was filled with a box of attachments, the original manual, threads and bobbins until I got it home. Even the seller didn't know.

It's a little intimidating so I haven't done much with it except clean the outer parts and cabinet. The seller didn't know much about it. She said it ran a couple of years ago. I tested the motor & lights and they work. It has a knee control.
