2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Hand bag and wallet on: May 17, 2011 05:51:26 AM
I know they don't match but I was just experimenting with fabric that I have on hand and thought I would try making a wallet and a handbag
I used the part of the tutorial for the handbag from sewmamasew.com April bag...mine has a gusset instead of rounded corners and I added a flower.

The wallet is just my idea of what i need in a wallet...easy access to cash and coin since i am not a credit card user but still carry  one and easy access to my other cards etc.
I will do a matching set later this week and maybe readjust the wallet cc pockets lower so they won't be in the way of the closure Smiley)
I dont think i did pics right cause they turned out too small...hmm...ok fixed that!

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Fabric bags or not?? on: January 29, 2009 12:30:08 PM
Of all the fabric bags I have seen, I think that they are pretty but kinda not what I see people carrying. Maybe come spring that will change.
Or maybe I just don't get out enough  Grin
I am thinking if I was to make one it would have to have a sturdy vinyl or leather bottom and the same for handles for durability purposes...
I mean I chuck my purse on the floor in my car all the time and under tables when need be at a function at church or what ever...There isn't always a place to keep it off the floor,  so my purse would be filthy and not last long if it were all fabric.

Tell me what would you prefer as far as looks and durability combined

All fabric
All leather/vinyl
or leather / vinyl and fabric
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / fabric ideas/interfacing help on: January 04, 2009 05:45:19 AM
What would be a good fabric for the inside of a cosmetic bag, I am thinking that the inside of a cosmetic bag will get messed up with make-up and so should it be something special other than just cotton??
Another question- Interfacing , is it washable and if washed does it lose its stability?  I am making my first travel bag and just wondered if it gets dirty and I need to wash it and is has interfacing will it be the same stiffness after washing??
Kinda of a newbie here with interfacing so any tips would be great.

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / first purse and tote project on: August 24, 2008 08:20:10 AM
Let me know what you think
These are my first tries at pursemaking...I have a million ideas for my next purses
I think the big bow purse will be a slight bit different next time...putting in that zipper was easy too I just sewed a piece of fabric to each end of zipper for tabs.. then cut two strips to fit length by I think two inches wide ...hemmed ends, then ironed long sides over a pinch then attached zipper to folded side.
I attached other folded side of strip to the  purse with pins and sewed it on
I also quilted the fabric but next time I need to use a better batting for a fluffier look i think

Tote..Made this for my daughters friend, she is in love with it,
I don't think you can se it but I did a jean seam where the top and bottom are sewn together...looks cool. I think the bag came out about 13H x 18W straps 20in
