Moomin Swap

We have a gallery!! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=373155.0

This swap is dedicated to all things Moomin related. Just in case youve checked out this thread thinking Heywhat are those cute hippos in that picture? I should explain that Moomins are a family of Finnish trolls who live in Moominvalley with their friends and have appeared in a number of books, comics, TV animations and films since the 1940's.
If you (or someone you know) would like a bit more Moomin magic in the world then this is the swap for you

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Moomin Swap on: November 27, 2010 01:35:34 AM

So I'm just designing a Moomin related Christmas present for a friend at work and it got me thinking how much fun a Moomin swap could be  Smiley I love, love, love the colours/ designs used in Moomin artwork  Smiley

I've had a quick search and can't see that one has happened before so wondered if there would be any interest?

In case anyone doesn't know - Moomin's are trolls (who strongly resemble adorable white hippos) who live in the forests of Finland and have starred in their own books and cartoons...and are basically completely gorgeous   Cheesy

If there is any interest then I'd be happy to try my hand at organising (probably not until the New year though  Wink)

6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Embroidered Doctor Who Gallifreyan Bag on: August 03, 2010 09:46:54 AM
I made this for the TV Addict swap and my partner has messaged me to say she's received it so I guess it's safe to post now  Smiley

I wanted to make a Doctor Who themed bag for my partner and decided that as I'm trying to teach myself how to embroider at the moment I should probably bite the bullet and have a go at my own design. I tried a few different transfer techniques and in the end chose to just draw it straight on (using a compass) and some help from my far more artistically inclined boyfriend!

Here's the bag itself:

And a close up of the stitching (I tried to use a couple of ditterent styles but nothing too adventurous at this stage  Wink )

And here's the fob-watch it's based on - the symbols on the front are from The Doctor's home, Gallifrey:

I learnt that it takes me a lot of concentration to sew neat circles, but I'm pretty please with how it turned out  Smiley

Oh...and hanging from the strap is a little dalek toy (who was not best pleased about being turned into a keyring...apparently it's not being very respectful towards a superior alien race  Wink )

Thanks for looking! Any feedback about my stitching would be welcomed (I'm really enjoying learning at the moment - I'm finding it to be the most rewarding craft I've tried to date)  Smiley
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Eco Monkey and Friends (Picture Plump) on: April 25, 2010 07:07:33 AM
I'm learning to knit at the moment - and for the longest time I could ony manage squares (or rectangles) - nothing that required shaping of any kind. The little guys/girls below are the product of this period (all made as presents for different people) and were made from a basic pattern which I modified a bit  Smiley

First we have Eco-Monkey - made for my dad who has a huge passion for environmental issues and is a bit of an all-round hippy  Cheesy His ears are supposed to look like leaves  :

Next is Music Monkey, made for someone who teaches piano (he has music notes sewn all over and a mini piano stitched onto his behind)!

Then Chic-y Monkey, made for a fan of the Shabby Chic style:

Money-Love made for a tennis fan:

And lastly - Monk Tee, made for a golfer - Monk Tee comes with a little pocket on his back to carry around golf tees, and his own miniature golf clubs (for playing minature golf of course) :

Thanks for looking - there are a few others out there but these are the ones I have pictures of  Smiley

Now I need to progress to making things that don't just involve knitting squares  Smiley
8  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Jumpers for ex- battery hens (UK based) on: April 09, 2010 03:46:03 PM

Hi all,

I hope it's ok to post this here but I just read an article about this in a magazine and it melted me a little bit so I thought I'd post it in case any knit-a-holics have a desire to make these jumpers (I'm learning to knit at the moment and this has given me the motivation to carry on with that  Smiley ).

A group of knitters meet up to make jumpers for battery hens who need a bit of extra warmth while their feathers grow back, and have also asked for people to make the jumpers and send them through to them.

You can find out a bit more about it part way down this page:

http://www.monktonelmgardencentre.co.uk/

And the pattern and address to send the jumpers to is here:

9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross Stitch Sampler of Geekdom on: April 08, 2010 11:14:03 AM
Hi - so this is my first time posting anything I've made (eek!)

This is a sampler I designed and made for a friend for Christmas. I (not so subtly) asked her for a list of her most favourite geeky television programmes/ films and then picked some to design a sampler around. Deciding what images to use for each thing was a lot of fun  Grin

Anyway, I was rubbish and didn't take any pictures so the recipient (who's a member here) has sent some through to me (if you see this post - thank you hun!)

I'll leave you to see if you can work out what the  geeky references are  Wink

Thanks for looking  Smiley

10  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / *Steps out of the cloak of lurk-dom* on: April 04, 2010 02:11:36 PM
So I've been lurking here since what seems like forever-ago and thought it was finally time to say hello.

I'm Kat and I live on the not-even-slightly-sunny south west coast of the UK.

Craft-wise I've been doing cross stitch since I was really young and have recently started trying to design my own things to stitch because I like my crafts with a slightly...quirky...edge (which is why I love reading the posts here of course  Wink ) I've also tried a few paper crafts and am currently trying to teach myself to knit (I can only knit squares so far but I have high hopes that one day I can achieve greater knit-based things!)

I'm also learning embroidery at the moment and adore the Sublime Stitching Designs, as well as trying to teach myself how to sew in general.

Outside of crafty obsessions I'm a bit of a sci-fi and fantasy geek (Lost, Doctor Who, Torchwood, X-files, Labyrinth and LotR to name a few), love many things vampire related - Lost Boys, True Blood, Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, play a bit of X-Box (currently on play through one million of Dragon Age), read lots of books, love all things Japanese and have 2 mental but adorable cats.

I'm really looking forward to seeing people's projects and taking part in craft swaps so I'll hopefully see you around  Wink
