2  Our Living Room Gets a New Life! (With hardwood floors) in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by blushingbluegrass on: April 24, 2013 03:59:46 PM
When we bought our house, we bought from a very sweet elderly gentleman. The kind of sweet elderly gentleman who thinks that baby blue and pastel pink carpet are okay. Consequently, we have been saving up for hardware floors ever since.

For perspective, this is what our living room looked like when we moved in.

First we painted. We kept the same colors and just freshened them up, so I forgot to take pictures. Forgive me!

Next we took up all the carpet and cleaned the subfloor. (Side note: Carpet is gross!)

Next was the very long process of laying the floors

Complete!

Then it was time to load in our furniture! We are both in love with vintage furniture, so our decor is a mix of hand-me-downs, thrift shop finds and auction bargains.

We are so thrilled with the results! I can say that it was a ton of work but totally worth it.

Next? The computer room and kitchen.....

6  Truly OUTRAGEOUS! Jem Costume in Halloween Costumes by blushingbluegrass on: November 03, 2012 07:34:15 AM

For years, I have wanted to be Jem from Jem and the Holograms. I loved that show as a kid and have fond memories of jumping around, dancing and singing with it playing in the background.

This year, I made my dream a reality. It all started with a terrible pink dress I found on Ebay.

I still shiver when I see that picture. I shortened and de-ruffled it. Then I made the belt out of some silver vinyl and blue glitter glue. The earrings are cardboard and pink glitter, the shoes are some old heels I glitterfied with modge podge and pink glitter. I bought the industrial size bottle of pink glitter for this outfit, don't worry. The wig, I found on Ebay, and it is a surprisingly nice wig. Bonus: it was really easy to wear! No itchy head for me.

closeup of the earrings

and one more just because I like it....  Wink

Thanks for looking! I hope you enjoyed my truly outrageous costume!

10  Re: Christmas Stocking Swap 7 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by blushingbluegrass on: December 13, 2011 11:58:57 AM
Speaking of recycled sweater stockings.... here is what I sent cassettetape!

First up some ornaments I made

a pair of light switch covers

a snap closure pouch

a canvas cosmetic bag

a Doctor Who stenciled Tee

And a Weasley Sweater stocking..... I was pretty proud of this one, because I had never done anything like it, and I came up with the idea all by myself  Cheesy

The only thing not pictured is a zipper pocket scarf that I have made before...

I hope Cassettetape liked everything!
