1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Purple Alphabet top-- in which I learn an important lesson on: May 24, 2009 05:59:28 PM
i had the same problem with that pattern! never mind the fact that i did the contrasting band part backwards so that it ended up as neckline facing, but your body has to be a perfect box to wear it....
but i wear it anyway. =)

i like the colors you did, though.

i LOVE the first one! great job!

you look freaking cute in this.
i would wear it out; my only reservation is the elastic around the legholes. i think that if you hemmed them normally, you could definitely get away with wearing it out because the elastic makes it look like a kid's playsuit.

this would be adorable in red, too.  Wink

you inspired me to make a skirt like this in some fabric i just got today.

it's really fun-looking; i like the fabric you chose for the sides.

did you consider sewing the button area down completely so that it always looks neat?

i would have considered that, but i was expecting to have to use the buttons to get in and out; it ended up a little bigger than i expected and i probably should've measured before i made all my buttonholes.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / betsey-inspired skirt recon on: April 18, 2009 04:40:40 PM
i love betsey johnson, as i'm sure some of you do as well.
i was looking through her site and i found this skirt.
and then i found this skirt at goodwill that needed some sort of recon; it was a little small and i wasn't a huge fan of the button-up part.

so i put two and two together and got.....

i added floral panels on the side and bigger buttons in between the existing buttons to remove the pulling that was happening in the original skirt.
i also removed the waistband and belt loops. i might add a drawstring to prevent wardrobe malfunctions since i don't need to undo the buttons to get in/out of the skirt anymore.

first time i've used a store-bought pattern in a while...
simplicity 2956, it's a project runway edition.
i did the "surplice bodice" and "tunic skirt"
but i changed the straps because two straps of braided jersey were wayyyy too thick.
so i used lime green bias tape instead.

the fabric is a nice medium-weight green knit from joann fabrics; it was on sale. woo.

thanks all..

All so cute. I loooooooooooooove the anchor fabric. Where did you find it? Ive been looking for anchor fabric EVERYWHERE!!
i got it in the clearance section of joann fabrics about a year or so ago... i haven't seen it there recently.

They'e all really nice, did you use a pattern for the dresses?
i was too impatient to use patterns, so i made them up as i went along.=)

I love them! And I totally have that red/yellow/blue striped fabric, but I have no idea what to do with it!

thanks; i saw the fabric and bought it because i love the thickness and stretch of it, but it's been sitting around forever and i still have a ton more that i'm not sure what to do with. haha
