1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Need help making some crazy shoulder pads on: June 17, 2010 03:58:40 PM
Hello all!
I was hoping somebody could help me out as I'm having a bit of a problem. I'm about to get started on crafting my halloween costume for this year and I wanted to be Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon because let's face it...she's a hardcore chick. So anyway the problem I'm running into is how to make these crazy awesome shoulder pads that she wears:

I considered just taking the shoulder pads out of an old hockey uniform and using sculpy to make it appear more like armor, but then I realized that if I tried to attach the pads to the shirt with those little skull buttons that she wears- the pads would be way too heavy and would stretch out the neck of the shirt tremendously and would be almost unwearable. That's really the only idea I could come up with and it kind of fails. Does anybody have any other ideas on how I could do this? The pads don't have to look EXACTLY like the picture because that would be really hard to achieve, but I want them to at least look pretty similar.
Thanks for reading!
Jill

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / its kinda too cold for tshirts, yah? on: December 03, 2009 11:27:51 PM
ok, so it even gets cold in Texas sometimes! i got this awesome shirt last month when i saw one of my favorite bands perform and ive really been wanting to wear it but it's been cooold! so i took matters into my own hands and made this sweet new pullover hoodie:D its a pretty basic recon, i know, but i was really pleased with how it came out and wanted to show you guys. i hope you like it!

4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Werewolves do it 'til you HOWL on: September 18, 2009 03:53:36 PM
ok, so basically im a big harry potter dork. that's me in a nutshell. and im going to a concert for a band called "The Remus Lupins" im sure some of yall know who they are! and i stenciled a t-shirt for the event:D (for those who havent read the books remus lupin was a werewolf in the hp series)
oh and for the record i found this slogan on craftster somewhere but it was so long ago that i cant remember where i found it! so credit for that goes to whoever it was on here that came up with it...

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Gonna dance all night in my new 60's dress on: September 17, 2009 11:20:18 AM
So I'm going to a 60's themed dance party and i decided to make me own dress...the only problem was i can't figure out how to use patterns to save my life. so this was all done without a pattern which caused a little problem in the midriff area. but i'm really proud of it:) its the first thing i've made that actually came out (more-or-less) according to plan.i hope yall like it!

You can probably tell that the white band across the middle isn't totally even all the way across, so i think im just going to throw a wide belt over it to cover it up. other than that i have no idea what to do for accessories....jewelry has always been a weak point for me lol. any ideas on what kind of jewelry/shoes i can use with this? gogo boots maybe? tights?
comments and criticism is always welcome!
6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Lupin werewolf munny on: July 28, 2009 09:41:16 AM
So I've been wanting to do a Harry Potter munny for a while now...and i finally got that little boost of inspiration i needed after going to a Potter con last week. Here's the finished product...It's a Remus Lupin/Werewolf. Im pretty proud of my little guy!

Lupin's wizard side w/ wand

Lupin's werewolf side w/ fur!

and the back. i meant to give him a tail as well but i forgot to do it until after he was already baked.

Thanks for looking!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / cute summer dress and halters :) *now with a quick tute for dress* on: July 05, 2009 02:12:04 PM
so its summer and i've been spending most of my free-time raiding goodwill and family members closets haha. i came up with a few really cute ideas and whipped these three items up last night/this morning. let me know what you think!
this first one is an old t-shirt of my dads. the color was still really solid without much fading so i turned it into a strapless dress for summer. he couldn't believe it was actually his old shirt when he saw it! lol

and this one is from a men's t-shirt i snagged from goodwill for .99! wooo!
