1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / i painted on some envelopes. on: April 20, 2008 01:24:45 PM
i painted on these envelopes.

pen and watercolor. my signature doodle is this "sad pear" character. i just drew him sad for a long time and then i decided he needed to start having reasons to be sad. so now i draw him with dead birds and rainclouds and stuff.

also i was thinking about colorado.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / atlas sound scarf on: March 03, 2008 06:48:25 PM
i am friends with Bradford Cox of atlas sound and he was in town for a show on saturday so i had to show up with a sweet present for him. here is the scarf:

he loved it he was like "you made this!? this is SO 1993! i LOVE 1993"

no scarf on stage because lights are hot, but here is a picture from the show:

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / LOVE STINGS on: June 27, 2007 08:23:03 PM
so i got into embroidery ala sublime stitching about 1.3 months ago and i've been hooked. its so much more mobile than anything else i do! so i made some practice ones. and then i did the cute little birdies on a shirt, which i'll get around to posting later, and then one of my friends had a birthday coming up so i made him one. and then another boy got jealous. so i made him one. both of those managed to get away from me pre-pictures. but not on the 3rd attempt.

this was a team effort. i was like WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS SCORPION!? and my witty friend said 'love stings' which i found amazing. so a tshirt for my buddy danny was born. he's in love with it. me too.

4  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / mmm carpet purse on: September 28, 2006 06:45:13 PM
so i loved the idea about making a purse out of scrap carpet. How would i go about sewing this together? i dont think standard thread, needles, or sewing machines would cut it.

ideas?
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / "uhh. your fly is open." "oh. yeah. these pants are dumb" on: June 23, 2006 02:11:57 PM
i have this awesome pair of jeans that are perfect for me in every way but one. the zipper is like slathered down with imaginary lubricant. it will not stay up to save my life. is there any sort of chemical or something i can do to the zipper(maybe sanding it..?) to make it less slippery?
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / yet another homecoming post. on: September 23, 2005 04:21:25 PM
Homecoming is coming up and am looking to make this dress.

http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2870972&boutique=dresses_n_occasion&category=2376776~2374327~2374331~6001799~6001809&ProductFinder=True&pfindid=14

any suggestions on patterns or just a way to go about it? my date and i should be quite the pair considering less than a minute ago his exact words to me were:
gnarlock (6:17:22 PM): can i wear a cowboy shirt to homecoming?
scuffmark (6:17:35 PM): if you wear a sport coat over it
gnarlock (6:17:40 PM): ok
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Japan Host Family Gifts on: July 23, 2005 05:59:58 PM
Why didn't i think of posting here before?

I leave Chicago on tuesday to perform at the world expo in Aichi, Japan. Japan is a very gift giving country and I'm looking for some crafts or just gift ideas to give to my host family.

Things i'm already giving them include:
Chicago Blues CD
Teen Magazines - totally reading them on the 14 hour flight before i give them to them though. haha.
A CD of my choir

Any ideas for quick things to show them how much chicago/america loves them?

And to anyone who's been to Japan before, got any tips on how to survive? Both my brother and father have been there, but I'm looking for maybe something two men wouldnt notice that i might need to know. Must see stores? I'll be in Tokyo, Aichi, Toyota and Ngoya
8  Illinois / Illinois: North / CTA purse on: May 12, 2005 02:13:29 PM
i put this on the reconstructed board as well, but i though some chicagoans might like to check this out...

I've been saving up my cta card thingis for a while with the intention of making something out of them and i was bored a few nights ago so i decided i would make something out of them.

i'll probably have a billion more of these laying around... any ideas what i could make out of those?
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / cta purse on: May 12, 2005 02:11:58 PM

to inform the non-chicagoans...

10  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / soberite!! on: March 12, 2005 02:45:23 PM
so i made this shirt today out of sheer desperation. it surprisingly turned out alright. i did this using a kiddy paint brush, a box cutter, some old acrylic paint and a file folder. why would i use such bootleg materials? because the south side irish parade is tomorrow and i need a shirt to set myself aside from the usual drunk teenager. I was going for an industrial look anyways... but this is how it turned out...
