My local Goodwill has a bargain basement where all the usually unwanted things get sold. Today they had two boxes full of patterns and I bought all the ones that werent chewed on by some criiter. 74 patterns, all vintage, and all for 5 bucks.

I am gonna be a busy girl

8  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / am I being over-cautious? on: March 01, 2009 01:10:51 PM
Today I made my first batch of CP soap. I was very nervous about using lye and I might have gone a little overboard. I had on big thick goggles, a long sleeve worksshirt, chemical gloves and a respirator. I really didnt want to touch the stuff, because it was my first time working with it and I was not sure what it would do to me if I touched it. I was also nervous about cleaning up afterwards but I read that all you have to do is clean it with hot soapy water. I went ahead and put all the cloths I used to clean up in the laundry hamper and scrubbed my stovetoo good (we have an electric stove).

was I over-doing it? what safety measures do you use when working with lye?
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / alternatives to a stick blender for cp soap? on: February 23, 2009 06:45:34 AM
I just spent a lot of money on soapmaking supplies and tools. I have the digital scale amd the lye and safety gear and whatnot, but what I do not have is a stick blender. I looked them up and everywhere I go, they are pretty pricey.

I know they didn't use them in the olden days of soap making, so could I just stir the mixture at this point?
