22  pinup vampire in Halloween Costumes by TexasThistle on: November 01, 2008 06:33:19 PM
I made this costume for halloween this year. I have been watching waay too much of true blood.  Everyone loved the costume,  it was a big hit at the office. I couldnt wear it all day though, the corset came off and was replaced by a tshirt after lunch.

the whole outfit

I spent a month planning and sewing the outfit. I loved it, I even had teens coming up to me in walmart and telling me how cool I looked.....*sigh* you will never know true validation until you hear someone tell you :"you rock!"

23  (SWAP SPOILER!!! DONT LOOK GRANNIESANNIE!!!)Zombie Santa and his bag of DEATH in Winter Holidays by TexasThistle on: October 25, 2008 11:08:45 AM
This is for my partner in the quirky Christmas swap. She asked for a unusual santa, and  I brainstormed a few ideas before thinking of this. Finally I decided to make a zombie santa...and instead of presents.....his bag is full of death.....

it is just a wooden santa found at a thrift shop that I painted.

24  Furst corset, black vinyl in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by TexasThistle on: October 25, 2008 11:03:09 AM
This is my very first corset I made a lot of mistakes but all in all, I think it turned out great. It is black vinyl I found at hobby lobby with this great embossed floral pattern. The only thing I wish I could change is that I put in too many eyelets and some fell out.

25  Dorothy (from the wizard of oz) burlesque outfit (img heavy) in Costumes: Completed Projects by TexasThistle on: October 15, 2008 09:15:42 AM
I made this from an old blue gingham bedskirt I never used and two identical nighties I got at my lingerie shower that werent really my style. I like burlesque and I am gonna suprise my DH on his birthday. This took about a week to plan and make.

The Top:

front of the skirt (it has eyelet tape and closes corset-style on the side)

back of the skirt

closeup of lace on the back

26  Skeleton Skirt made with no pattern, totally freehand (img heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by TexasThistle on: October 06, 2008 06:49:56 PM
I tried ot post this a minute ago and the computer quit.....here goes nothing:

I made this with no pattern and a yard of neat fabric. If the pics look crooked it is cause I am sticking my knee out.

finished skirt:

I have seen a couple posts with these wire-wrapped peace signs on them (i think the first was inspired by a necklace on "americas next top model" but I cant find the post). I wanted one, so I decided to try my hand at making one. They are awesomely easy. I made 2

number one, huge peace sign in silver and turquoise with red accent beads:

seond one is about an inch and a half big, with red sed beads and silver round beads

28  Hanging Chore Chart in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by TexasThistle on: September 13, 2008 09:43:08 PM
I made this so I would remember which housework to do on which day. It was made out of heavy canvas edged in hem facing. The pockets are sccraps. I cut strips of craft foam and wrote chore names on them and put them in the pockets. I used fabric markers to write days of the week and things I should do every day

29  Groovy Flower Hippie Apron in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by TexasThistle on: September 12, 2008 05:37:47 PM
I made this apron from an old pillow that was huge, but had some stains on the back. I liked the flower, and was gonna make a tote, but decided on an apron instead. i made the ruffles in leftover tie-dye fabric i have had for ages. I also added some of it to the ends of the straps. I like it, and it makes me feel happy one gloomy days. I am gonna be Mrs Scrooge and keep it instead of making it a christmas gift

30  The bigger the bed, the bigger the guilt in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by TexasThistle on: September 11, 2008 08:13:17 PM
We have a new puppy (labrador and golden reteiver mix) who thinks my dining room is a toilet since nothing is in there (and i mean nothing at all, we just moved in). Yesterday was the last straw and I kicked him out of the house temporarily. Then I felt bad, cause he was my present from my husband to make me feel better about the deployment, so I coaxed him back in and made him a bed.

In-progress pic with Gus (Captian Agustus McCray is his full name, and whoever knows who that is gets a virtual doggie treat)

I had to hand-sew the sides on it.

mr impatient asleep on his half-made bed

finally finished.

"mom, where is it? huh mom? mooooom.......
