Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
Project Name: A miniature replica of a flying carpet
Brief Description: What better way to understand an object than to make a model of one, so I wove a small replica of a flying carpet, of course it doesn't fly because to charm it would be to break the law banning flying carpets. Also this assignment was much more challenging than I thought it would be and there are many mistakes in it's craftsmanship, which I am sure could cause mishaps while flying. It was a great first attempt though. Even though it isn't as well executed as I would have liked, I will still enjoy using it as a small place mat or mug rug. It started out just fine, I thought I was keeping the tension even and the weaving didn't go too slowly, but after taking it off the loom it was chaos, maybe I need to do some more research on the proper methods of finishing them off.

52  Floor Painting: Water Lilies As a Part of A Much Larger Koi Pond. in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 25, 2013 12:09:52 PM
My GF ErinAquaheart has been laboring for several weeks now on a koi pond floor painting that she was commissioned to do, and she let me help by painting the water lilies. My lilies evolved over time and because of that some of them had to be removed with acetone so that I could paint them all in the final style. That was kind of sad because it resulted in the removal of one of my favorites, but luckily I got a picture of it!

Here is the one that got removed:

Which I can understand why the owner wanted it removed because it looked more like a dahlia really. Here is the final style that they are all in, this one is blue but there are also pink and yellow ones scattered around the floor:

53  Sinus Soothing Cold Cucumber Melon Soup With Basil and Mint in Vegetarian / Vegan by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 25, 2013 12:03:09 PM
This time of year my allergies make me feel terrible so I am always looking for ways to soothe my achy sinuses and sore throat. This cucumber melon soup with fresh mint and basil was even more pain relieving, delicious, and refreshing than I thought it would be! I just put peeled cucumber, cantaloupe, fresh mint leaves, fresh basil leaves, and agave nectar in a blender with some ice and blended it until it was smooth. If you make this yourself don't be shy with the mint and basil they aromatic qualities are very nice and soothing if you are generous with them. Also, the agave nectar is great to add a healing texture to the mix but it also adds a lot of sugar, so I put three to four table spoons plus some splenda packets to make it sweet enough, but if you don't have a problem with sugar you may want to add more agave nectar. This was super tasty and it would be great for a summer brunch or appetizer, or even a refreshing smoothie on the go. I really enjoyed eating it as a soup though, because it is easier to taste all of the flavors and take the time to let it soothe my sinuses eating it one spoonful at a time.

54  Abstract Badger Drawing in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 25, 2013 11:52:56 AM
Lately I have been on a roll with drawing with a lot of line and pattern. This little badger drawing is something I am proud of. It was fun to do and I really like how it turned out looking earthy and tribal.

55  Phoenix Feather Illustration in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 25, 2013 11:49:02 AM
Ever since I was a kid I have loved line art and op art like drawing, I was making all kinds of elaborate doodles back before "zentangle" was a term on everyone's lips. So lately I have been experimenting with using the op art style of abstract line design, along with subject matter that is more representational. So I made this illustration of a phoenix feather.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Defense Against The Dark Arts
Project Name:Cucumber Melon Cold Soup
Brief Description: This is the season where my allergies make me feel like I have been hit in the head with a sledge hammer, so I am constantly looking for things to sooth my sore throat and achy sinuses. Especially things that are comforting without the excessive use of medication. So I came up with this cold soup I put peeled cucumber, cantaloupe, agave nectar, fresh mint leaves, and fresh basil leaves in a blender with some ice and blended it until smooth. If you make this don't be shy with the mint and basil their aromatic qualities are a big part of why it is so soothing, and also If you want to cut back on the sugar content (which I had to do) just put a few table spoons of Agave Nectar and then some splenda packets. That way you still get the soothing texture of the agave nectar but it is lighter in the sugar and calorie department. In the end this cold soup was very delicious, and incredibly soothing. I will definitely be making this again in the summer when it is 100 degrees outside! This fits the Defense Against the Dark Arts class because of it's cucumber content, and the fact that Kappas are dark and dangerous creatures but are great luck if you are able to befriend one and the best way to befriend one is to invite it to dine with you and serve it cucumber dishes, so this cold soup would be the perfect appetizer to a feast of cucumber sushi on a hot summer afternoon.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Horcrux: Marvolo Gaunt's Ring
Project Name: Phoenix Feather In Memory Of Dumbledore
Brief Description: Everyone knows that Dumbledore loved his Phoenix, Fawkes, dearly and that the symbolism of the Phoenix is central to not only Dumbledore's character but Harry Potter's character and the over arching theme of the series in general. The Idea of rising from the ashes and allowing yourself to be reborn after difficult times is one of the things that inspired me most about the Harry Potter series. With that in mind I made an illustration of a Phoenix feather. I drew it in black ink and colored it with prismacolor pencils.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Horcrux: Helga Hufflepuff's Cup
Project Name: Hufflepuff Badger Drawing
Brief Description: When drawing the Phoenix feather I did for the above project I had such a good time and seemed to be on a roll with drawing in that style so I continued by drawing this badger drawing in honor of Hufflepuff. Their mascot is the badger and that house is very much drawn to earthy and natural pursuits like Herbology, so I included lots of plant life in the drawing as well. I made sure to accent the black ink drawing with yellow for Hufflepuff pride!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Horcrux: Harry Potter
Project Name: Water Lily paintings
Brief Description: By now everyone has seen ErinAquaheart's owl where she spent over 90 hours painting a koi pond, well she was kind enough to let me have a small hand in that project by letting me paint the water lilies. The lilies evolved over time and one of the ones I loved actually had to be erased with acetone so that I could paint all of them in the final style, but luckily I got pictures of both styles.
Project Picture:
First the one that had to be erased:

This one is the final style, it's mainly blue but some are pink as well:

57  Little Dinosaur Illustration in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 19, 2013 06:41:09 AM
I have been working on a few smaller projects lately to try different subject matter and to get better in general, so in that experimentation I came up with this little guy:

The pic is a little muddy, sorry about that, but I think you can see most of the details, the colors are a little more vibrant in real life.

Here are some process pics, because I love to see the stages of progress! It's cool to look back it see how it transformed from a sketch to a fully colored illustration.

Class/Challenge/House Pride:Horcrux: Nagini
Project Name:Little Dinosaur Painting
Brief Description: Since Nagini is a reptile his distant relatives were the dinosaurs, so when I got the inspiration to make something dinosaur related I made this painting so I could destroy something as scary as Nagini with something as cute as this little guy.

60  Wild Encounters: A scrapbook page from about Disney's Animal Kingdom in Scrapbooking: Completed Projects by TechnicolorAquahearts on: February 17, 2013 11:49:57 AM
I have been to Disney World twice now with my girlfriend and have yet to scrapbook any of it  Angry So, I got started by making this page of all the characters we met at Disney's Animal Kingdom. We find it exceptionally fun to meet characters and act along with them. It's akin to the kind of fun we have when we go to re-in-actor parks and try and make the re-in-actors laugh.
