Class/Challenge/House Pride: DA: Lessons With Harry: Fred and George Fight Back
SPEW: Donated to an art auction to benefit the Arkansas Shakespeare Festival
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Exit Pursued By A Bear: A Winter's Tale Painting

For this project I wanted to do my best not only for the Arkansas Shakespeare Festival, but also so that it would be stunning enough to be the distraction Fred and George were looking for. This painting is watercolor and it took me a total of 46 hours over 5 days to paint. I included several process pics so you can see how I arrived at the finished piece. It is 16x20 on watercolor paper.

Class/Challenge/House Pride:  Muggle Studies
SPEW: n/a

Project Name: Cleaning My Art Desk

For my spring cleaning the muggle way project I cleaned off my art desk

*pops in all disheveled with a pile of projects in my arms*

I meant to have a lot more done by the end of this semester! I have just had so much go on with my family and all the medical stuff we have been going through that I didn't have the time to do as much as I normally do, but I do have quite a few assignments to turn in here in the last hour!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DA Lessons with Harry: Disarming
SPEW: n/a
Project Name: Mind clearing doodle

For this project we were supposed to get rid of something standing in the way of completing a project, and often when I sit down to do some art or a craft I have a lot of little wiggles and random thoughts to get out so sometimes I do a doodle first to clear my mind and help me focus on my more structured task. Here is one of those mind clearing doodles:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DA: Lessons With Harry: Impediment Jinx
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Soft Lacy Red Scarf

For this project we were supposed to create something that stops something so I created a soft lacy red scarf to stop the cold wind from hitting the wearers face.

Class/Challenge/House Pride:DA: Lessons With Harry: Reductor Curse
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Tiny T-Rex painting

For this project I decided to draw a little sketchy t-rex with a vivid watercolor background. As you know Dinosaurs are very very big so to reduce one down to a 5x7 painting is a seriously effective use of the reductor curse.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DA: Lessons With Harry: Protean Charm
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Peacock Lady Drawing

Since the new year I have been trying to draw every day and focus more on my fine art. This peacock lady is one of those daily drawings and also fits this assignment because she is in disguise as a peacock.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: January Detention
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name:Lucky Cat Drawing

WIP. I started this drawing a while ago and didn't pick it up until a few days ago and finished it My breakthrough was the addition of the cat. At that point it went from just a doodle to an actual art piece. I'm pretty proud of it.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: February Detention: All Black
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: All Black Doodle

For this project I again called upon my desire to draw something every day even if it is just a doodle. This one turned out rather elaborate and all black so I felt it appropriate for this assignment.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Arachnomancy, weaving a web of warmth.

For this assignment I studied the intricate weaving of spider webs and decided to weave a web of warmth by making this blue lacy scarf.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: History of Magic
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Free Pen Drawing

As an artist materials can get pretty expensive, but if you are resourceful you can find less expensive and even free things to make art with. A few years ago I noticed the frequency at which free pens are given out in our society, free pens come from everywhere from doctor's offices to trade conferences and hotels. The free pens you collect in your life can tell a story of where you have been and the kind of daily business you conduct. I have always wanted to do a large art series based on these ideas. So for this assignment I used a free pen that I got at the W hotel in Dallas and made a small drawing to practice and get to know what it feels like to draw with these types of pens for a future larger project. Here is my little free pen drawing:

I seem to draw sugar skulls a lot when I don't know what else to draw, but the cala lilies were a new thing for me so drawing them allowed me to stretch a little.

There are my last minute turn ins. I hope to have a lot more next semester. Including that OWL I promised I was going to finish!

Wow! Thank you so much Pinkleo for pointing out that Erin and I were both in the Craftster best of 2013! What an amazing surprise to log on and find that!

I have a tone of assignments in the works as usual for me at the end of a term but for right now I just have this project:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Dumbledore's Army: Sign The Parchment
SPEW: n/a
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Hot colors for cold nights scarf

It was hard for me to pick a signature craft because I do so many with equal frequency, but I am usually always crocheting if I have to wait somewhere or when I am watching TV, and I always make stuff for other people. Well, lately I have gotten a new vocal coach and she caught me out while it was below freezing outside without a scarf which is terrible for your voice, so it was time to make myself something with my crochet. So here it is my neon, voice protector scarf. I made it extra wide and extra long so I can wrap it around twice if I have to in order to keep those chords warm and comfy.

Here is a progress pic where the colors are more accurate:

And the finished project modeled by the lovely ErinAquaheart

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Alchemy
Project Name:Green Lion Drawing

This drawing was really fun. I have been trying to make myself do art everyday even if I dont't know what to draw. So, when I started doodling and this lion emerged I just knew I had to decorate him in green and use him for his alchemical potential. He reminds me of something that would live on the Island of Misfit Toys.

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful comments on my previously posted projects! Someone asked what I used to make the leopard painting: Its a combination of watercolor, pencil, and ink.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Muggle Studies
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Comforting Chicken Rice For a Cold Night
Brief Description: As many of you are aware the Eastern and Southern U.S. was subject to a "Polar Vortex" or in less dramatic terms: It got really freakin cold! So I pulled out my muggle stew pot and made this simple, hearty, and warm recipe for my family to sup on and warm their bellies. It is really simple I used a 16 oz bag of white rice and followed the directions on the package for the amount of liquid to add. I used chicken stock instead of water to give it a richer flavor, First I melted some butter in the bottom of the pan and toasted the rice until some of it was a very light golden brown, then I added the liquid, celery, carrots, and two cans of chicken. I brought it to a boil over medium heat and then covered it and let it simmer on low stirring occasionally until the excess liquid was gone and the rice was fluffy. We seasoned it with a little salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning. The poultry seasoning really makes it go from plain to pow!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Unicorn Painting

Brief Description: One of my new years resolutions was to make some art every day in order to build my skill and body of work. I chose a unicorn on this day because I knew that the porportions would be challenging and that I would have to exercise my watercolor layering skills to get it painted and shaded. It isn't perfect, but I think it has a lot of personality.

Advanced Studies Friday:

I am a 5th year and I am ashamed to report that I have never completed an owl. I have planned man of them and proposed a couple of them, but not finished either of them. Well, this semester that is going to change! Here is the work I did this week on my currently proposed Muggle Studies OWL. I devised a project where I made a set of custom art toys inspired by muggle fairy tales. I took a broad definition of fairy tale and went with any fantastical fiction. So far I have ideas for The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, James and The Giant Peach, and The Chronicles of Narnia. Here are a few pics of the process that I am using to create the toys:

Above are the vinyl blanks that I am using for some of the toys, I will also be making some cloth dolls with stencils.

Here are some pics of the design work that I have done so far:

Wow! What an amazingly strong semester we have going here! I am so impressed by the variety of awesome projects I have seen. I don't have time to comment on everyone of them but they all deserve all the kudos that can be given! I am arriving at the castle late this semester because of the various medical issues Erin and I have had to stay at St. Mungos for. Even though I am arriving late I do have some homework to turn in so I am not totally behind.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: DA: Drink at Hogshead and Quidditch (gift: Bludger to Gryffindor)
House: Slytherin
Project Name: gingerbreadmen
Brief Description: Erin and I made these together (I promise that both of us put in plenty of time and labor on these to be able to count them individually) She has the best gingerbread recipe. I did the decorating of the five in the picture. I brought them to our favorite coffee shop and gave them to the staff. They were quickly gobbled up. Cheesy

Project Picture:

Read more: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=429362.0#ixzz2pepI6au2

Here is the recipe:

1 stick of butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
1tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2tsp ginger
2tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
if you are an experienced baker you will notice the liberal amount of spices, that is because when we make our gingerbread we double what the average recipe calls for because we like them extra rich and extra fragrant. Erin has been asked many many times what her secret is to making the best gingerbread cookies ever, and the answer to that is the double spices and the use of all molasses and brown sugar instead of regular white sugar.

Beat butter with sugar and molasses. Mix in egg. Sift dry ingredients into and mix into wet mixture. Chill in refrigerator 2 hours or until firm enough to roll. Heat oven to 350. Roll to 1/4 thick (sometimes we make ours a little thicker) on floured board. cut with cookie cutters and place on greased baking sheets. bake 8-10 minutes. cool on cooling rack before icing.

The icing is Erin's own thing I don't even know how to write it down she just does it without a recipe but it is basic butter cream icing made with powdered sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla or almond flavoring.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: December Detention
Project Name: Monogram hoopla
Brief Description: I really enjoy making hooplas a few semesters ago I made my first one and I mentioned how I could get addicted to them. Well, this one was just as fun to make and circular too so it fits the detention assignment.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: BEAN: Gravy Quidditch (gift to my aunt: Bludger to Gryffindor)
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Lotus and Koi small watercolor painting
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Defense Against The Dark Arts Quidditch (gift to my cousin: Goal for Ravenclaw)
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Mixed Media Leopard Painting
Brief Description: This meets the requirements of this class because I made it for my cousin to hang on her boring wall and she hung it up in her room immediately after opening it Smiley
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology + SPEW Quidditch: (gift for person at cancer center: Goal for Ravenclaw)
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Hand Stitched Christmas Tree Ornament
Brief Description: This is a simple pattern that I made a while ago and laminated and I have made many of these just like this they are great to keep a few in my bag during the holidays to give to people. Erin and I have been hanging around a cancer center for her treatments, we are usually there for 12 or 16 hours, so I have made lots of these and just given them to people at the cancer center I wind up talking to. It fits the class because it is green and red (I'm counting the dk pink as red) and I guess since I used it as a gift of goodwill at the cancer center it counts as SPEW too.

First of all for those of you keeping up with ErinAquaheart's situation: We found out that her cancer has spread to her liver and that her initial diagnosis of stage three was wrong she is actually in stage four. This was devastating news, and we have had to dive head first into an aggressive treatment regimen. Her family came to be with her during the first few days of this new reality and that is why we have been M.I.A. around here lately. All of your thoughts, prayers, and spew projects have meant the world to us. Thank you all so much for your kindness and support.

Slytherin House: Don't worry I haven't forgotten about you! I am so proud of all of your amazing projects and I am so happy to see us getting a few new members! I even have my eye on a prefect, could it be you? Stay tuned because I am still planning a really fun extra credit surprise.

Now for some of my homework:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: September Detention
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Sock Monster

This sock monster was laying around my house in pieces. Occasionally I have come across the body ready to be stuffed or the ears ready to be stitched and I meant to get around to finishing him. So, finally after a few YEARS I decided to assemble him.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bean- Lobster
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Remembering Christmas the way it was

This is kind of sad but when I thought about something from my past that I miss and wish I could go back to, what hit me the hardest was Christmas. I grew up in Salt Lake City, so Christmas time was always cold and Crisp. Snow was in the mountains and we had a fire in the fireplace. My dad loved holidays so much and he had a talent for making everything magical. Both my parents were big advocates of handcrafted everything so we spent a lot of time either making projects of our own or being the customers of people who handmade all kinds of wonderful things. It wasn't until my parents divorced and we moved away that I even had jam and bread from a store rather than handmade from a farmers market or a friend. Holidays were truly special because of these values. But time went on, my parents divorced, I grew up and became cynical, and my dad passed away. With all of that the holidays kind of fall flat for me. ErinAquaheart and I spend each holiday season that we have together trying to make it magical in new ways. So I made this little felt hand stitched ornament to remember the more innocent magical holiday seasons of my youth.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination
House: Slytherin
Project Name:Kitty Paw Arm warmers

Cat's are always so graceful and nimble on their feet so for this class I studied their paws and made these arm warmers to show what I learned.

They are so comfortable! I love wearing them. I can't wait until it gets colder outside!

What are these whispers about a scavenger hunt I have been hearing in the Slytherin common room?
Hmmm... Something is definitely brewing for Slytherin house, and it's bound to be exciting! Stay tuned for an opportunity for extra credit that will help you on your way to greatness!

Now for some of my own school work:

With all the tests and the latest troubling news with ErinAquaheart I haven't had much time to craft but I did get these two classes done. We will hear once and for all about whether her cancer has spread to her liver on Monday. This has been the. longest. few. days. EVARRR.  Embarrassed

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Frog Choir
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Kawaii Froggy Coffee Sleeve

When I was a teen I loved loved LOVED anything sanrio and definitely in my top three two favorites was Kerropi and you don't see that character anymore. I had a mini backpack with kerropi on it that I never parted with Smiley I STILL love me some sanrio. So in tribute to my teenhood which I like to pretend that I still am in  Grin I made this coffee sleeve.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Fairy Door Made From Whomping Willow Bark

Fairies have a powerful magic that is not yet totally understood but we do know that inviting them into your home will bring their blessings and magic to your life. Since we need all the blessings we can get right now I made this fairy door and since the whomping willow is a powerful defensive magical plant and I was lucky enough to obtain a sample of it's bark I made the fairy door with it, so that maybe the blessings that the fairies bring will be as rare, powerful, and defensive as the whomping willow.

20  Abstract Fish Ink Drawing Notecards in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by TechnicolorAquahearts on: September 04, 2013 07:14:27 PM
I have been in kind of a rut artistically lately so I decided to try something outside of the box for me. Here's what I came up with: Some abstract ink drawings of fish and a Narwhal. I abstracted them by taking the color and pattern of their markings beyond the forms of the animals and on to the rest of the art surface. I am pretty pleased with how they turned out and I am interested in exploring this kind of thing more.
