Do you know anyone expecting their own little scientist? or perhaps just someone who wants to redo their kids room...





We used to break open highlighters and put them in water filled liquor bottles (in college) and they would glow, especially under a black light.  I'd just love a nursery like this!

I found these photos just by doing a Google search. The room was done for a baby named Edison.  Too cute! <3

This is not my *favorite* song, but it is my son's favorite, therefore, it is my favorite by association.  I learned the song when I was in kindergarten. I sing it to my son 20+ times a day to appease him.  March 5^th is my sons FIRST BIRTHDAY!! (yay!) So I had to make a cake!











The cake is a simple chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I found a recipe for butter cream fondant here.   http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Rolled-Buttercream-Fondant/Detail.aspx It uses a lot of powdered sugar. so much, I ran out and had to work the fondant like play dough instead of rolling it out.

The song is pretty simplistic, but he's one. He probably just likes the funny faces I make when I sing it. Also the words glunk glunk can be changed to whatever sound you want. If you are unfamiliar with this song, a simple youtube search of "went the little green frog"  will pull up hundreds of videos of people (young and old!) singing it.

My husband and I were expecting our first child in late April, so you can imagine our surprise when my water broke two months early.   36 hours of labor, our bundle of baby boy was born.  He was bigger than they had expected, and doing so well (yay!) that they decided to send him home after only 5 days in the NICU. 

Now our dilemma.  We had only gotten as far as picking out the colors for the room.  My husband kept insisting that we had plenty of time to work on it.  We also had very little baby items, as we were waiting to see what was given at the baby shower.

Our NICU had rules saying that you could not be away from the hospital for longer than three hours. So it was either myself or daddy sitting by baby's side, while the other worked on the room. Thanks to a lot of friends and family, we were able to get hand-me-downs of furniture so babe had some place to sleep!! Here is how it turned out.

My little guy is now doing very well, and will sleep anywhere and everywhere, except his room.  *sigh*


 

Our two year anniversary is coming up next week!

Super short Wedding mishap stories.
I got married in Northern Wisconsin on October 21st, 2006.  The 3 year before  it was all of the fall colors going for me, and beautiful Indian summers.  I planned a lot of my wedding to be outdoors.  stupid stupid stupid.  It was freezing rain on my wedding day. (Although I was told that if it rains on your wedding day, that means you will come into money....*ahem*.... still waiting.)

Also... The locally owned hotel that I had my reception at was sold and changed their name AFTER I sent out all of my invitations.... to a HOWARD JOHNSON! that's right... I was officially married at a HoJo.

Last one... I was told for the TWO YEARS that I was planning my wedding, that an atm machine could be moved, so I would be able to decorate properly... while getting my photos taken with my bridsemaids, I witness the hotel staff COVERING UP the ATM with a WHITE SHEET!!! It looked like a freaking ghost in the middle of my ceremony.  It was hardwired into the floor. They couldn't move it. (If I had known this... I at least would have covered it up with something tasteful/ decor fitting.)

ugh, don't even get me started on the bridsemaid dresses.

Oh well... I can laugh about all of this stuff now, right?  _{*maybe not now maybe next anniversary*}


okay, I picked just a few photos.  Colors were Black and champagne gold. Our friend is an editor/photojournalist for a newspaper, his wedding gift to us was the photography.

It doesn't matter how crafty I am... My hair will never look that good again.

Or if you had a traditional cake in mind... don't forget you can make a little grooms cake. 

For favors, maybe you could get the guests a Rubik's cube key chain!

And (saved the best for last) Place a mound of Legos on each table (heck! make it the centerpiece) Your Guests have to build something, and show it off before the two of you will kiss.  It could make for some funny moments, and at the very least a bonding moment for your guests.
