1  CANADA / British Columbia / Cherry Blossoms Textiles Exhibit on: April 18, 2012 02:57:32 PM
Hi guys, I wanted to let you know about this exhibit that is going on. It's called "Cherry Blossoms: A Textile Translation"  I went to the Van Dusen Cherry Blossom festival this year and there was a booth dedicated to this exhibition. They do a variety of different crafts (from crocheting to weaving to sculptures) and at the booth they had examples of what would be there. Let me tell you, they were beautiful, I would very happily stare at one of them for hours.

I haven't been yet, I plan to go this thurs or fri. If there are as nice as the ones I saw at Van Dusen, this is probably well worth the trip.

here's the website http://silkpurse.ca/

From April 17 to 29, 2012 (closed Mon, open tues to sun from 12 to 5pm)

with Dressew around I don't really like to go to Michaels, it's just too overpriced! Unless I have one of their 40% off coupons, I don't like to go there. Just a heads up, they have usually have 40% off one regular item coupons on their website and they accept coupons on smartphones too so use those! I hate that my fellow craftsters are overpaying for their supplies there.

There's a fabric store on Fraser and Kingsway. It's relatively new (about a year or so) and they carry fabric from Japan too. It's about $16/metre. I can't remember the name though. Notions are expensive but fabrics are beautiful. They carry pretty much all the colours of the rainbow from the Moda line. It's also a workshop type store, the front is fabrics and notions, and the back of the store are sewing machines and workbenches. They have lessons there too.

Though I had two WIP right now, this looks so tempting!

I remember this one too, I had wanted to make this before. I just put it in the back of my mind.
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Really Simple Doll Bed Tutorial on: April 18, 2012 12:10:50 AM
Hi everyone

I wanted to share this tutorial with you guys. This is a really easy doll bed you can make, it's pretty much just cutting and pasting! My original intent was to make this for my lati doll but after I had made this I found a wooden bed online. Even though I didn't use it, I still think this was a good attempt at making a bed. I made this one to look like the one I had when I was little, it also had three little drawers underneath it. Smiley I hope you guys enjoy this ~

I didn't want to upload all the pictures onto craftster since it's extremely picture heavy (about 25 in total)  Grin  I put all of them on my blog instead.

Supplies:
- large rectangular box (big enough for matchbox drawers)
- 3 matchboxes
- some ribbon
- 2 of those plastic safety corners for desks (I got mine at daiso)
- cardboard big enough to fit inside the box
- X-Acto knife (wiki link here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Acto)
- scissors
- glue

Optional supplies:
- paper to glue on top of rectangular box to make it prettier
- modge podge (for paper projects)
- paint (if you do not want to modge podge the surface of the bed)

If my pictures aren't self explanatory enough please let me know! I'll be very happy to answer your questions ~
