Does anyone have a great pattern/project that is always a hit for baby showers?

I have a shower coming up for a wife of a cousin that I really don't know that well, and I'd like to make something, but I'm not sure what I should make. I was thinking the tiramisu blanket, but any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

So I want to try making a doily, but I need to find a good pattern for a beginner..anybody know of one?

What are some good meal ideas to fix when the temperature rises outside? I can't find a thread like this on here, and I need some ideas!

So, I've been wanting to do the cold shoulders capelet in The Happy Hooker, but I hate hate HATE fuzzy mohair yarn. What kind of non-fuzzy yarn should I substitute? Would any plain ol worsted stuff do???
