1  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / any help with Free People jean dress on: August 06, 2009 09:10:52 AM
I bought this great jean fabric at the store the other day and then was flipping through the Free People catalog I got in the mail today and came across this great dress. I'd love to make it, but it does look pretty complicated (to me, at least).

Any ideas for patterns?

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Fixing Up a Thrifted Picnic Basket on: July 29, 2008 10:23:12 AM
So, I grabbed this old picnic basket (i think that's what it is...) when I found out it was only $1. The only problem: no handle and nasty interior. So I'm trying to get ideas on how to fix it up so I can bring it along for some lovely picnics! I'm thinking about lining it perhaps and making a leather(?) strap/handle. Thoughts?

Love this clasp, but the leather top ripped off, so now it's just the underlying fabric:

The things inside of here were the old handles that broke:

4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Looking for promos from fellow Etsy Sellers... on: June 24, 2008 11:38:40 AM
I really hope this is in the right forum...if not, feel free to move it or direct me to the right place! =)

I'm begining to actually sell some pieces in my etsy shop, and yesterday as I was packing up a (quite large) order, I thought "Hmmm...I should include some business cards from other Etsians in my packages!"

So...I'm wondering if anyone here would like to send me some promos to include in my packages ( or we could even do a promo swap, possibly). OR if anyone knows of a group that has an organized promo swap going on that I could get in on, that would be great, too!

Thanks for your help! Hope to hear from some of you! =)
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Easter Dress on: April 22, 2006 11:26:52 AM
Here is an Easter Dress I made for my sister. I'm pretty proud of it!  Smiley It took forever, though! The straps gave me the hardest time. But it looked really cute on her! I used a simplicity pattern to make it.

Side (if you look really close, you can see where I had to take in the sleeves about 3 times  Sad ):

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Research Paper Interview!! on: April 13, 2006 02:14:19 PM
I have this research paper for school and we were able to make our own "Question", so I chose this one:

What is it about NYC that makes it the destination for so many artists in various fields?

For the paper, we have to have one primary source, or interview. Is there anyone here that lives in NYC (optional) and possibly has some insight into this topic (maybe by personal experience)? If you do,please post here or pm me and I will get back to you!

Thanks!
7  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / American Girl Dress on: March 01, 2006 06:04:47 PM
My sister fell in love with this dress after seeing it in an American Girl Magazine. She wants me to make it for her for Easter. Do you have any ideas on how to go about this??? Any tutorials that you remember that could help me with the skirt part or even the top? Keep in mind this is for a younger girl.

Here's a link to the picture of the dress: http://photobucket.com/albums/c185/picturesforlooking/?action=view&current=americangirl.jpg

And here is one to the American Girl site pictures with the dress actually on a girl: http://store.americangirl.com/pls/ag/AG_pagestyle?catid=375817&groupid=442279

Thanks in advance! Smiley
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / More questions about Duct Tape Mannequins!!! on: February 10, 2006 08:12:12 PM
Ok so I've finally decided to just get on with it and make my own duct tape mannequin. A couple of questions before I start though (for those of you who have made one yourself!) :

1. Are you able to stick pins through the duct tape?

2. About how long was it where you were actually wrapped up in the duct tape?

3. How many rolls did it take you? (I know this question will depend on size, but i'm just trying to get a rough estimate.)

Thanks ahead of time!
9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / anybody know how to make pictures look like this: on: December 11, 2005 03:43:42 PM
I'm not sure if this is where this topic should go...I didn't see a better place.

Does anyone know how to make the background of pictures look kinda blury, or I guess like faded out. I have seen it in all of the Pottery Barn catalogs and here's an example: http://ww2.potterybarn.com/cat/pip.cfm?src=shpcaccholgar%7Crshop&pkey=caccholgar&gids=p4888

And here's another one: http://ww2.potterybarn.com/cat/pip.cfm?src=shpcaccvaccan%7Crshop&pkey=caccvaccan&gids=p2842

It helps the viewer focus on the product, not the rest of the background. ANYBODY think they know how to get this? Thanks!
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Hip, Funky Necklace on: December 03, 2005 08:04:11 AM
Well, this was my first attempt at a "real" necklace and I think it turned out all right. It's really funky and I think it would really stand out it you wore it with a solid color shirt!

I couldn't figure out how to get my picture small enough, so here's a link to where the pictures are. Hopefully it will work!  Undecided
