21  Re: Baby Girl Dress from Men's Shirt in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: August 12, 2009 05:59:09 PM
Well, my daughter wore this dress out the other day when I took her to Stone Mountain for the afternoon.  It is no longer a dress, it's a long shirt Smiley

Thanks for all of the nice comments!!  I can't wait to try another shirt recon!

23  I love shirred dresses! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 30, 2009 06:18:45 PM
So, this is my 4th shirred dress and execution wise, it turned out the best.  I get a little better with each one I make!

I'm not sure what the fabric is- it's a little thinner than cotton.  I made the straps black because I couldn't find the scrap I had left to make the straps with- oh well!

Sorry for the action shots Smiley  She's not too good at posing just yet!

24  Halter Top for My Baby Girl in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 30, 2009 06:12:28 PM
I found this (http://www.thegreenwife.com/frommetoyou/tutorials/toddler-halter-top-tutorial/) great tute for making a toddler halter top.  The instructions are very easy to follow.  I made my own bias tape, as did the lady who made the tutorial.  If you wanted to save some time, you could just buy some.  Creating the bias tape was the most time consuming part of the top.

I knew it would turn out a bit big for my girl.  The tutorial was for a size 2T and she's in 12-18 mos.  But, I kind of like how it looks now and she has lots of room to grow!  Couldn't be better Smiley  Plus- the fabric was free (given to me by someone who bought a ton at an estate sale).

Here's some pictures of my girl in her new shirt.

I know she has a funny look on her face, but I am very proud of this one because she is standing all by herself!  And yes- she's playing with my cell phone.

25  Baby Girl Dress from Men's Shirt in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 24, 2009 07:35:24 PM
I bought a shirt this week at the thrift store to make my baby girl a dress from. It is a men's shirt. I forgot to take a before shot of the shirt... oops! But, you can tell what the print is from the dress. I do not know ANY man who would wear this shirt. Hence, why it was most likely at the thrift store! But, I thought it would make a really cute little girly dress Smiley It made me think of a poem by Bradley Hathaway called Manly Man because it's so NOT a manly shirt! Anyhow, here's the dress.

Note: She's only 10 1/2 mos. and has been sick-- it's pretty hard to get a good modeling picture when she feels good, let alone now Smiley

I am very pleased with the overall product. It took a while to get here. I had to resize it 3 times because it was initially HUGE. It wound up being pretty snug and shorter than I would like. Oh well- guess she'll just have to wear it really soon!  Oh- and I pretty much followed cheytown's tute, just making a few tiny changes Smiley

26  Two New Dresses for my Sweet Baby Girl in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 23, 2009 07:15:22 PM
Lately, I have been devoting all of my creative energy to sewing things for my baby girl.  Mostly, I've been sewing dresses.  The first dress I made her was the cow print dress for Cow Appreciation Day, which I posted about earlier.  I learned a lot when making that dress and I'm continuing to learn a lot with each dress I make.

The 2nd dress I've made is a pirate dress.  Overall, I am pleased with the results.  However, I shirred it on a narrow stitch and the end result was a wider dress.  It works just fine because it ties at the top, but I'll know for next time to pay closer attention to my stitch width.

DISCLAIMER:  These are the best pictures I have of her modeling the dress.  She has had a bad virus for the past few days, so she's sick in all these pictures.  Besides, it's just hard to get a 10 month old to model anytime!

The third dress I made is by favorite, by far.  I picked this fabric up at Joann's when we were visiting family in Florida.  I was all set to add ribbon ties to this dress as well, but the brown ribbon I had clashed with the brown in the dress.  So, I whipped up these little straps.  They aren't adjustable like the ribbon, but that's okay, because they fit her perfectly!  There's a little elastic in them to add a ruffle-like look.  I think I'll be making future straps like these because I really like how they look on my girl!

28  Baby Girl's 4th of July Tutu in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 18, 2009 06:01:39 AM

So, I know it's a bit past the 4th, but this is the tutu I made my baby girl for the 4th.  The blue ribbon is removal so I can add a black one during football season for her Daddy's team, UGA.

Here's a few more pictures from the 4th... don't mind the ball in the neck of her shirt- her Mimi was playing a game with her Smiley

And she finds the ribbon...

29  Baby cow dress for Chick-fil-a Cow Appreciation Day in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: July 17, 2009 06:34:35 PM

This is the cow print dress I made Raileigh.  A local fast food restauarnt, Chick-fil-a, has Cow Appreciation Day one day each July.  They encourage people to dress as a cow and get a free meal.  We dressed Raileigh up in this dress I made her.

She is now in the Chick-fil-a Photo Contest to win Chick-fil-a for a year!!  You can vote for her once a day until August 31 by going here:  http://www.facebook.com/ChickfilA?v=app_99369078187.  Click on the vote tab and search by name for me, Desiree.  You'll see the picture below.  Click vote Smiley  Thanks!

30  Flannel Teddy Bear in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: August 16, 2008 11:34:52 AM
I made this teddy bear using the Simplicity Pattern 8418.  I started on him a very long time ago, and put it away when I got frustrated from putting the arms and legs on backwards.  So, I just pulled him out and fixed and finished him.

Thanks for looking!
