1  OMG! I learned how to operate a sewing machine!!! [Lots o' Pics] in Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects by islanesia on: August 21, 2009 03:56:00 AM
I'm a lurker. Been lurkin' here for longer than a respectable girl should admit. Mostly, it was because I couldn't operate a sewing machine... Then it was because I couldn't sew anything wearable.

But I finally figured out how to operate my machine! (That, and I scored a full-figure TwinFit dressform for $40 off of Craigslist...)

So I've finally worked up the courage to post some of the stuff I've recently done.

Project #1: Lounging Pants

The shirt looked like this when I found it in a thrift store. I bought it because it was orange and said "Guam."

But the shirt didn't look cute on me. So I decided they'd look cute on me as pants!

Project #2: Islanesian Experience -- The Dresss

1. It started as two plain shirts I never wore...

2. Then I did a DIY screen print of the family logo...

3. Then I made a fun summery maxi dress! (I love shirring!)

Project #3: My First *Wearable* Hoodie

I forgot to take before photos of this one, sorry! But it started as a short sleeve shirt that I found for $2 during a street fair. Monkey Love aside, it wasn't really something I'd wear much. But I recently got a pair of red and black lounging pants and decided the shirt would make an excellent matching hoodie! (The hood was made especially big for when my dreads are looking especially heinous... Roll Eyes)

*Sigh o' Relief*

There. I did it. I've posted something I made and I might even try to do it again someday!

2  From Shirt to Lounging Pants... in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by islanesia on: March 28, 2009 08:24:23 PM
Longtime recon lurker, but first-time poster-- mainly because I'm still trying to figure out how to operate a sewing machine...

My local Goodwill had one of their colored tag bonanzas, so I scored a ton of 99 cent shirts to experiment with-- and so far, I suck the least at turning a shirt into lounging pants:

The top of the pants came from a random red shirt that I also picked up while thrift shopping.

Thanks for looking!
