2  Yay Mood Beads in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: October 25, 2008 03:16:25 PM
So ever since I've seen these things at the bead store, I've been addicted to them, and actually ran out for quite some time - got two new strands in a few weeks ago but had to put them on the back burner until now - so here's a few quickie mood bead pieces on hemp Smiley They're just like mood rings, they turn all sorts of cool colors. Gonna do lots more of these I think, just swamped at work so it's such a pain Sad

3  New Hemp Jewelry Pieces - Fiber Beads, Mood Beads, Lampwork and More - Pic Heavy in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: October 16, 2008 12:00:19 PM
Oh god - I've been going nuts getting enough inventory for the holiday season, so I've been making all sorts of stuff lately - wanted to share some of the favorites Cheesy Not all of them are crazy designs or anything, been trying to put some focus on the beads, especially in the gemstone pieces.

4  Playing with Gemstones - Aftermath of the Intergem Trip - Pic Heavy in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: September 26, 2008 10:08:15 PM
So I went to Intergem - oh my god, if it comes around to your area, go to it! It was absolutelly incredible, although some of the booths had such shiny things that it literally hurt my eyes. I could only stand to pick up one pack of bali because of that! Haha - so let's start with the giant mess of beads:

In that pic, there is lampwork, ceramic, turquoise, seraphinite, labradorite, dyed quartz, amethyst, lava rock, unakite, sodalite, snowflake obsidian, fluorite, garnet, bali, earwires, jump rings - at least as far as I can remember, they're all hiding in bead condos now Smiley

I've mostly worked on bracelets so far with these, so incoming picture barrage:
Labradorite that actually does have nice fire, it just refuses to let me photograph it. Fishbone knotting
Lava rock. Nuff said.
Seraphinite is a brand new stone to me, and I have to say I love the way it shines in the light with a near pearly effect. Combined with the bali I did manage to grab before getting blinded
Garnet, a nice rich deep red - keeping most of the knotting pretty simple for the first batch on the gemstone bracelets, I have full strands of everything though so planning on doing more complicated weaves as well.
Could you believe no one had sodalite that looked good until the VERY LAST BOOTH I looked at? It's not like this is a rare stone, but everyone had lapis and azurite which I could care less about. Bring on the sodalite! Tried a new dangle type on the end of this, it looks almost like a bouquet.

Now with the necklaces - only did two so far
Dyed quartz, nice chunky nuggets in fishbone
More seraphinite - love this stuff

So yeah, been crafting away like crazy since I have a festival at the end of the month, but figured I would check in here and see what's going on Smiley Right now I've been working with a lot of really cool fiber beads I got, so here are some of those to take a look at Smiley

7  Found a neat pendant floating around my bedroom in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: August 22, 2008 12:31:14 PM
...so I had to throw it onto something, because this thing is all sorts of shiny sparkly blue and just general craziness. It's a stoneware ceramic pendant that has recycled glass fused into it - got it from my college town years ago Smiley

Today's pet project consisted of a wonderful batch of custom made fiber beads and a giant pile of hemp. And time. Lots of time.

9  New Lot of Hemp Jewelry (pic heavy) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: August 11, 2008 02:40:19 PM
I've been playing around with making my pictures not look like total ass (with an angry photographer friend yapping about my mess ups :p) along with some new designs - figured I'd go ahead and post em here Smiley All of these are basic knots still - square, spiral, fishbone, and alternating. I have a fishbone tutorial in my last thread, but if you happen to want to know what I did with these ones just let me know and I'll attempt to explain it :p

10  Re: First Hemp Necklace I've Done in Years in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Selenia on: August 01, 2008 03:35:39 PM
Okay - I'm having a terrible camera day so the tutorial pictures aren't exactly the best, but they should give you the basic idea. I am using two different colors to make it easy to see, and only two working strands in this one - however you can repeat step 2 as many times as you want to add on tons of working strands, that gives you the visual effect that is seen in my original project picture. This tutorial does assume you know how to square knot already - if you don't, it's the basic knot in hemp and there are a lot of videos and tutorials that cover it out there far better than I could Smiley

Step 1: Just mount your beading strands as normal.

Step 2: With your first working strand, attach it to the beading / center strands with a square knot

Step 3: Repeat step 2 with a different working strand - you can add as many as you'd like

Step 4: Then just start square knotting the working strands in order. You pull the strands you are working with over top of the already knotted strands, and just keep square knotting all the way down. If you like the circles look you can pull out the strands a bit on each square knot, if not you can make a cool effect with it nice and tight.

Again, sorry about the pics but it was definitely not wanting to work with me today haha.
