Queenofdiy, Craftydeb and cute-anarchy you are the three angels who allowed me to easily make gifts for my husband's staff. He is the principal of a small school and he likes to give all his teachers and clerical staff a small thankyou gift at the end of each year. I usually do the shopping!! Over the years it has been coffee mugs, little vases, christmas ornaments among other things. At the end of last year they all received a shopping bag and they were thrilled!!!

So queenofdiy thanks for the original tute , craftydeb thanks for the handle method and cute-anarchy for the directions for folding without a pocket all oh so clever and oh so generous!!!!

A great first effort!! A gusset on your first attempt - well done- and a clever use of the original elements of the uniform!

I am always truly amazed and impressed when people say they dive right in without a pattern!! I now attempt to draft patterns but when I started I always used a tute or pattern.

Keep on sewing - you may end up like me suffering, as I said in a previous thread. from what I call OBD - obsessive bag disorder!!!!!

Hi again Plumcrafty. It took me a while to visualise in my head what you meant by the L shape instead of the T shape but once I got it (ie I think you made a half pattern placing it on the fold to get the opposite sides even?) I realised it will help me make mine more even and allow me to vary the width of the handle more exactly!! Thanks so much for that idea!!

Again your bags are great - you may say you are rubbish at getting your patterns even but your sewing sure is great!!!

Very nice; love your choice of fabrics. It looks like tinyhappy's tute. I think the link is
http://www.tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2006/06/shoulder_bag_tu.html

It is a wonderful tute. I have made it several times and am about to make two more for two young girls as casual bags to take to work.

I wonder if 8 pages of comments in such a short time is a record?? Your bag is truly amazing. The simplicity of the bag design itself allows the buttons to do "all the talking". Your choice of lining fabric was inspired - sets it all off to perfection. You deserve all the accolades - stunningly beautiful!!!

So it wasn't only me!!! Queenofdiy I had my suspicions about the other pattern as well!!!
50  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: No more Tutes for me!! on: December 21, 2008 03:16:18 AM
Hi queenofdiy - I am so sorry for you about this issue. This site has given me so much inspiration and I have experienced such fun and sense of accomplishment from all the things I've made from here (your shopping bag included!!). I have a great deal of fun just reading and looking. The fun and excitement I have had has been due to the amazing talent and creativity of people like yourself and your wonderful generosity in sharing that with others. Thank you! I think we would all understand your "no more tutes for me" stance. We'll miss 'em, but understand!!!!!!

I found the etsy seller's comment interesting re the notion that you were the breaking the copyright of the designer of plastic grocery bags - did she not consider she was and would be even more in the wrong as she is profiting from it?Huh? My some people are strange!!!!!

Also I'm a bit of a believer in "what goes around comes around" or karma or whatever - perhaps sales may be not quite what the etsy seller had hoped - messages spread amazingly quickly in cyberspace or better still hopefully her conscience may come to the fore.
