31  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Tutorial: funky travel bag. . .(pictures) on: March 20, 2009 01:37:46 AM
Hi jenniebentham - I've made three of these now and my sister has just asked for one as well. It is the frame that makes the envelope but I found the folding was just a way of keeping the fabric manageable as you sew. Although I have noticed from posted pictures that some people have sewn quite crisp square corners I have only ever managed rounded corners. I am just careful as I come to the corner, ease the fabric as I sew around the fold and I don't end up with a pleat. I hope that helps.

I love the colours, the design is wonderful and I am gobsmacked  (is that a general term or just an Aussie colloquialism?) that you hand sewed it. Well done - what an amazing effort!!

Hi Plumcrafty - am finally uploading my versions of this bag ( I actually think these are my 5th and 6th!!). I am a teacher and here in Australia the new school year has just started so I've been pretty busy!!

As I said in a previous post in this thread these are for two young girls I know who are now both working. Needless to say one is into pink and one into black!!!!!

Oooh cute!!!! I like the second one. You have given me a great idea -in the right fabric they would make great little evening purses - may have to raid the silk stash!!! I was very lucky to get some from my sister in law who was cleaning out her garage and found a box of fabrics - mostly heavy silks - that had belonged to our late mother in  law!!!!
